Review 2 of 19

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
I bought my MX-1000U used for $1380 in good condition and have been very happy with its performance. This amplifier has nice dynamics and makes the listener want to get up and dance. Overall it has a sound like that of a McIntosh unit that is non-fatiguing but different too. It was interesting that I'm not the only one to make that comment. The first thing I noticed was this amplifier has great dynamics as noted earlier and images really good. It brings out the reverb and low-midrange detail in music. I really enjoy the tone and decay of strings on this amp in particular. It's been comparable to other amplifiers in the $2500 to $4000 range. I'm a bit confused by others who write the U version was lower power. I happened to have owned the MX-1000 in the past and it only has one transformer compared to the dual active power supply in the MX-1000U with 450W per channel dynamic 8 ohm power.

Postitives:
Great dynamics and stereo separation.
Protection circuit is a nice implementation.
Lots of headroom and more power than realistically needed.
Unconventional appearance, nice black aluminum faceplate.
Meters are useful.
Separate gain controls.
Gold inputs
Accepts Banana plugs and large diameter wire.

Negatives:
The very deepest subsonic bass is a rolled off like most amplifiers I've encountered.

Review 4 of 19

Price Paid:  $1200.00 from LaSalle Electronics

Summary:
I have owned many of AMPS in my lifetime, But the MX1000U is the best I've owned by far! I bought this massive beast in 1990 and haven't regretted it since. I run a Yamaha CX-2 as my Pre-Amp. (excellent match-up). I have one of the best sounding systems that I have ever heard! My speakers that I use are the Klipsch KLF-30's and KSW-15 powersub, also a match! The only thing I do regret is the price i paid for this amp ($1200.00). I dont know where these guys bought theirs, but I need to know? If anybody wants to get rid of theirs, just let me know!

Strengths:
POWER! CLEAN! DURABLE! AND ROCKS!!!

Weaknesses:
NONE!

Review 5 of 19

Price Paid:  $350.00

Summary:
This is a great amp!! The power is clean and plentiful, and the amp allows many speakers to be connected. The amp is heavy but worth it's weight. The transformers in this bad boy are MASSIVE and the amp generates tremendous heat if placed in a tightly enclosed area.

Strengths:
Clean and clear power allow this amp to effortlessly drive high powered speakers....smoked a pair of JBL S312II speakers with this baby!

Weaknesses:
heats up very quickly.

Yamaha AV2

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....
