Very smooth sounding amp with excellent bass and midrange response.Excellent phono stage running a Benz Ace H into the MM stage.Compares very well to my Musical Surroundings Nova II.I have owned a lot of equipment including Spectral Audible Illusions Audio Analogue AR Krell etc and always wanted to try this monster amp from Yamaha.It is an excellent sounding piece and compares well to my Belles 150 amp with the Rogue 99 actually much cleaner sounding.The amp is a beast and looks like a monster on the rack.The top end is a little recessed It is hard to find a perfect setup this is close.The best set up I have had for top end sparkle was running the Spectral 12 preamp.

This Yamaha is the latest in a long succession of amplifiers which have powered our system,the upgrading sickness shows only signs of temporary remissions but never seems totally cured. The A-S2000 was purchased as a replacement for an Arcam A85/P85 combination which was highly satisfactory but reliability issues became the rule rather than the exception and it had to go.The Yamahas' 'retro' appearance and lack of 'bells and whistles' compared to the Arcam took some getting used to but we are all now used to its heavyweight muscular appearance.The amplifier in use lives up to what might expect from its' weight and size.The sheer amount of power and impression of effortless control are far in excess of what one might expect from the modest stated power output.If it had been rated at 150 Wpc.I would not have questioned this.In our system the amplifier sounds realistic and very dynamic, presenting powerfull extended bass ,solid midrange and sweet untiring upper frequencies with all the musical genres we enjoy.Dedicated headphone outputs and phono input stages are two features which are perhaps not so readily available amongst current integrated competitors-both of these features on the Yamaha are supreb with the adjustable headphone section being worthy of special praise.Over extended periods of use at high volume the amplifier never seems to run short of anything and the best analogy would be to liken it to a very large engined powerful sportscar which always has lots in reserve.The only minor improvments I could wish for would be a brighter indicator light showing which source is selected and the ability to shut off the mains power with the remote.If a powerful integrated is what is required and this 'built like a tank' amplifiers' slightly warmish tonal charter suits the rest of the system it is an integrated which shouold be on anyones auditioning list Just make sure your rack and your back are ready for the weight....

pay 1-2000 dollars more and you could get a sound that is 2x times better. (still not very much better)

This will satisfy most people I know because of the natural sound.

If your are an audiophile and listens to alot of music and is very critial of sound being just right, and truly authentic.
Then you might find this too bright and tiring.

I do like the physical gadgets on this thing with all the buttons, and the headphone out is alot better than standard. (it feels very expensive!)

This integrated amplifier is awesome. I’ve auditioned the A-S2000 in a store with JMLab Electra 1028 Be and Arcam CD37. I was completely seduced by the overall sound. I can’t find weakness. This amplifier handle easily demanding speaker that needs power with authority and refinement. Highs are neutral, soft and not aggressive, the mediums are superb and bring to life voice and instrument, the bass is awesome, fast and powerful. At home, with my Mirage M-990s and my Rega Jupiter, the soundstage is deep and wide.

On classical music, you “see” the musicians and feel the recording room. On large orchestral music, the choir and orchestra are rendered in large scale. This amplifier is also amazing with Jazz, Blues and pop music. Its power reserve can handle the most demanding recording and dynamics. The A-S2000 is always under control and excels in multilayer recording.

So, this amplifier is a star and a decade bargain. It delivers so much for the money.
