Strengths: details, clarity , sweetness of midrangeWeaknesses: nothing at the price pointBottom Line: I recently bought Quad 99 power amp and used it with Rega Mira 3 Pre . My speakers are Dynaudio Audience 42 .Even with a cheap source like a DVD player , results were very good. I started getting very good details, clarity was top notch with clear separation of different instruments sound.Live concert recordings came out so well that I started thinking how much difference can an equipment make to ultimate sound reproduction.Very small and cute , well built 90 watt RMS at 8 ohms each channel

Strengths: Almost everythingWeaknesses: Very sensitive to placement, cables and pure (not dirty) electricity. Especially placement....Bottom Line: This review is for Quad 99cd-99pre-909pwr.
Well, first of all. These babies really needs good support or you won't understand how good they are. The preamp is the most sensitive part. At first I really missed my copland cta301 because of the depth, the easy - tube listening, and the soundstage, but now I can tell for sure, its all about placement. Transistors are not as bad as their reputation. Try the Solid-Tech - Feet of silence and you will understand. They just made everything right. Its a must hear. Quad is very neutral and a good allarounder. I read the review about the Quad77 preamp. This guy has not given the preamp a good placement, thats for sure. Im using Dynaudio 1.3se with this setup. Sound very good...

Bottom Line: I went to the "Sound and Video Festival" a few days ago in Montreal, and I listened to all the 99 series of Quad. I didn't think that the nices and small "pieces" could be so musical. I didn't know that the very smooth, clean and "moving and turning sound" going out the ESL-63 would be so relaxing. Now there is one thing that I know: I know what I like! The MUSIC! If ou do too, give a try to those musical boxes...
