Review NaN of , from Malaysia

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Update:

Further extensive tests of this amp with various speakers the last few months show the 208 to be still very relevant today. Its ability to drive many speaker rhythmically with a friendly, warm presentation yet remaining satisfyingly transparent surprised a few. Although it did not have the ultimate spotlight and detail prowess of the Audio Research Classic 120 monoblocks for example, the NAD gave a nice rendition of hard hitting jazz, sweeping orchestral works or intimate jazz quartet settings through a pair of Magneplan 1.6.

Playing with support and ferrite cores on the internal signal/power cables yielded a tighther, cleaner and more defined presentation - a more up to date sound. Solid grip on music.

Oh, and the midband improves a great deal after an hour of warm-up.

Strengths:
Extremely versatile with many speakers. Sound quality that still surprises today.

Weaknesses:
Needs proper set-up to avoid sounding soft. Sensitive to source's bass quality. Avoid robust sounding speakers.

Review NaN of , from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Price Paid:  $1680.00

Summary:
A fuity and hearthy sounding amp! Full of character, this is not an amp for neutral lovers. Loads of power with a slightly laid back perspective, it is suitable for head bangers although it is respectable enough for many other musical duties.

For those weaned on the euphony and coherence of tube power amps, the 208 will sound edgy, smeared and 'scatty'.

The 218THX is more civilised and well defined in terms of coherency and detail separation but the set back is a more clinical and overall leanish presentation.

Strengths:
Sheer power and loudness with 'no strain', Powerful and robust bass, friendly and hearthy sound

Weaknesses:
Bloated bass in wide bandwidth systems, leanish midband, not the most coherent across the frequency spectrum
