Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $1100.00 from Audiogon

Summary:
I bought this pair of amps second-hand about three years ago on Audiogon. I use them in an all Linn system driving a pair of Espeks in passive mode. I shiould note tha my listening room (which is also my living room, dining room and kitchen) is quite large (about 20' X 40' with over 9' ceilings).

Despite the size of my room the LK-240's drive my full-range, three-way speakers without effort, even at performance volumes, and have never been so much as warm to the touch. The sound is fast, involving and pitch perfect. the high end is open and transparent, the mid-range is detailed and warm and the bass is solid, snappy and tight. All of which I'd expect from a pair of Linn amps delivering 240 watts into 4 ohms.

The amps are quite user friendly. They are small, designed to be stacked and feature a stand-by mode that allows them to be left on with minimal power consumption but they fire up when sensing a signal from the pre-amp. A great amp that will drive almost any speaker well. These amps were well priced when new. They are a steal second hand.

Strengths:
Power, sound quality, size, convenience.

Weaknesses:
None

Review 2 of 2

Summary:
I don't know what the LK240's sound like with other preamps however, in conjunction with other Linn equipment i.e. Wakonda and Mimik which I am using, these amps just plain perform very well and assist in the true value of each instrument and vocal that is heard through the speakers.

If, size is important to you (as in cabinet size) you will not like the LK240's or other linn products . However, if you are after performance and the essence of the source material you are listing to try a pair of these 120 watt mono blocks amps!

Strengths:
(Best kept secret going on) openess, smoothness and ease in conveying the essence of the music !

Weaknesses:
mabey a little light in the lower octives but this could the be the combination of having satilites that don't reach down very low as well.

Similar Products Used:
listed to Krell (did not like it and found it to be harsh to the ears) and Plinius (I did like it "very much" and think it is a great product) if, I did not own linn I would have a Plinius Amp and Pre-Amp and be very happy and content.

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
