Summary:
THe Hafler P1000 is well worth the money. Although it is not very powerful, it has enough power to develope sufficient volume for normal listening volumes. It is very compact. Being so, tends to increase its operating temperature, but not more than other modern designs. If you want cool running amp, you will probably need to really check out a bunch of other ones. One of the most important characteristics is the silent turn on and shut off, no thumps pops or any other noises. Also silent on wall voltage power loss, so works great on unprotected compression drivers. Volume controls allow a great reduction in hiss coming from the compression drivers. Hiss is as silent as any other nice amp, and will not be a problem with normal full range speaker cabinets. The sound is very good, neutral, sounds just like my Brystons and Crowns, no sound of its own too my ears. Amp itself makes no transformer noise and is near silent. Has balanced/unbalanced 1/4" and XLR along with RCA inputs. Lacks 4 way binding posts for speakers, uses barrier strip with screws. Need to leave a small space all around for cooling. I replace Brystons and Crowns with this amp and would recommend it to anyone looking for a small amp. I would also recommend the P7000 as a very nice high power amp, but it does have a noisy fan, so I didn't keep the p7000 for very long.

Summary:
Does anyone out there use a P1000? Would you PLEASE submit a review.I have been scouring the net in vain to find an independant, subjective review.I am looking for a musically involving, sweet sounding,AFFORDABLE amp.to power up a Sony DVP S-300 and two way monitors (undecided).I believe these amps are available from HCM Audio (Chino,CA)for around $319,factory refurbished.Previously submitted reviews of the larger P3000 complain of noisy transformers, does the P1000 also suffer from this? I am hoping to feed the S-300 directly into the amp.and use the panel mounted input attenuators to control the volume and balance-is this viable? What about the larger P1500? HCM lists them at $299,what gives?I am sorry if you looked in on this page hoping to find a proper review, but hey, maybe this will spark off some lively comments on what looks to be (on paper at least)an audio bargain.Give us the good oil here or E-mail me at davina.hamiltondodds@gte.net.

Magnepan Magneplanar MG 1.6 User Review

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
