The MDS-6A Music Distribution Kit #2 includes the MDS-6A master, six MCS-1A source/volume controllers, and six model 2171 IR emitters. The MCS-1A is a single gang Decora style controller with volume, mute, and source selection buttons. The keypads are back-lit and are supplied with white and almond bezels. The IR targets allow complete control of the connected music source.
Well worth the money compared to the more expensive brands. The quality of sound coming from my stereo tuner is great and I think it is one of the best investments I have made into my home entertainment. There are a few things this system lacks that I would be willing to trade up to.
1. The IR is not routed. Each zone volume and source selection must be controlled from that zones keypad. Also the remote control only controls the zone of the keypad you point it at. I would like to be able to control the volume of other zones from any zone. e.g. select zone 6 on the remote control and point it at zone 5 wall keypad and control zone 6 source, volume, on/off etc.
2. Some of my audio sources such as a CD player is lacking in sound quality and must be ran through my stereo tuner to produce the quality I an looking for. This in effect reduces my source inputs to the MDS-6A to one source and the source selection must be made from my stereo and not the MDS keypad. I would like the Audio distribution server to have built-in amplification and equalization to improve the sound quality of my source equipment.
3. The only interface with the MDS-6A is through the keypad. I would like to integrate it with a web interface to control it from a web browser. This would allow access to the Music center via a handheld device such as an IPod or IPhone.
Overall the systems, even with its limitations, performs well. It has been working for me for more than 3 years with no issues.
