Bottom Line: This amplifier has none of the qualities tubes are known for. It sounds bright and thin as though the mid and high frequencies have been intentionally spiked and it's not transparent. Brightness is not transparency. My 24 year old Nakamichi PA7 has a more solid natural sound without the harshness. I purchased the CAD 120S MK ii along with the SLP-05 preamp and CAD 500CD. The CAD 120S MK II had to be replaced because the left channel bias meter was pegging and blowing the fuse. The ready light and power lights on SLP-05 preamp are so dim that they can hardly been unless the room is in darkness and reflects poor build quality. The amplifier only has holes for ventilation on the transformer cover. The bottom, sides, top and bottom of the amplifier are completely enclosed and the amplifier runs very hot. If you’re in the market for a quality product that produces music that sounds natural and doesn’t have a hyped up frequency response look elsewhere.
