Audio Research 150M Power Amplifier Amplifiers Reviews

Audio Research 150M Power Amplifier
MSRP:
$
The 150M is unlike any previous amplifier design you have seen from Audio Research. First, it is based on a truly modular design, with a main chassis capable of housoing up to seven individual power amplification modules, each rated at 150 watts continuous into 8 ohms, 300 watts into 4 ohms. These power modules employ a unique switching amplifier that modulates its frequency with amplitude/power demand - yielding a highly efficient circuit that generates very little heat. It's called a "Class T" design, and it makes the 150M ideal for any imaginable custom-installation application. Further, the modules are a plug-in design that attach internally via multipin connectors, so modules can be added or replaced as needed by a qualified technician.

Review 1 of 3

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
This is one of the most impressive sounding AMPs from ARC that I've ever heard. I've owned a D52, D200, D400 and this thing is the easiest to listen to with a sound stage that opens up into our back yard. The only solid state rival that I've ever heard is the Pass 350s. The power supply in this thing is massive. The ability to equip the amp with from one to 7 channels makes the basic unit extremely flexible. I can start it out as a 2 channel stereo amp and expand it later to 3 channel, using old D52 for rear, surround sound amp....or equip with 5 cards for HT. The factory can even bridge two for twice the power.

Strengths:
The beautiful sound and the flexibility in one unit.

Weaknesses:
Cost is always a concern. But, you get what you pay for.

Review 2 of 3

Price Paid:  $2500.00 from Audio Video Logic

Summary:
This is actually a review for the Audio Research 150.2 amp, a successor to the 100.2. I can't believe the natural gorgeous beauty in the sound coming out of this great amp! I love Audio Research products, but until now their prices were hard to afford. This amp is a steal at its price. No harsh edge but no loss for incredible detail too. Just go hear one and you'll flip! I traded a Bryston 4B ST in for this. No comparison, and the funny thing is I don't miss the extra power of the Bryston either! This 150.2 has serious muscle, but very gentle and refined like a live performance to the ear.

Strengths:
Build quality, reputable company with great support, gorgeous sound. Extremely neutral. Give it a while to break in...it does change for the better after a few weeks. Out of the box is really impressive however.

Weaknesses:
None I've heard or seen!

Review 3 of 3 , from Zagreb-Croatia-Europe

Price Paid:  $6000.00 from Croatia dealer

Summary:
I have owned several high-end speakers and finally settled for a pair of Magnepan MG20. I thought I needed more power than what the my Gryphon Callisto can offer, so I start searching for high power solid state monoblocks for biamping. Very happy to find 150m with four mono blocks cards, works well with my ARC LS22 preamp.

Strengths:
Has the most natural decay, bloom, and tonal balance.Simply one of the best solution for biamping your speakers.

Weaknesses:
Not at all

Rotel 1090, Gryphon 2100, Pathos Logos
