Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $1400.00 from The Container

Summary:
Purchased RX-V750 as a replacement for my retiring RX-V870 workhorse (had a faultless working life). First impressions, excellent, a completely different sound, so clear on all 7.1 channels. Lots of dsp enhancements to choose from. Watching my old dvd movies is like viewing them for the first time. Stuff that went unnoticed in the old pro logic stood out on the RX-V750 i.e the tapping on the fish tank in ‘Finding Nemo’ shook the whole house, the dynamic range is stunning. The pure direct brings out the best this receiver can reproduce. Once one's ears has adjusted to the two channel sound unaided by the heavy thump of a powered subwoofer and all the digital effects and switching, the details in the music can be heard. It’s like having something large standing/blocking your speakers being moved away when pure direct is selected. There is straight stereo for those who also want the boom from their sub. Yet to try a dvda but live music dts dvds have an open real live sound that fills the room with no strain. Noticed it weights a little less than the older yamaha (smaller transformer!) but still heavier than its competition I had seen, due too most of its weight coming from the transformer. That’s the first thing I check in a amp before I even ask for a listen…current cannot be drawn from thin air as power will always equal I^2 R. Current needs heavy gauge conductor, voltage does not

Strengths:
Auto setup, clear precise dts/dd (same chips as bigger brothers), zone 2, ample power - drives my rear 4 ohm speakers without trouble. Pure direct without sub. Video up conversion. Learning remote. Has all the features I need, so why pay for ones I will never use!

Weaknesses:
Our nz pricing, but that goes for all.

Similar Products Used:
My old RX-V870 plus store demo's of other similar priced receivers ie sony, pioneer, denon

Magnepan Magneplanar MG 1.6 User Review

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
