Review 2 of 14

Price Paid:  $380.00 from Audio Sagasta, Bueno

Summary:
This is a 5 channels x 60 W amp, has Dolby ProLogic, designed for HT use, and music also. You can connect an active subwoofer too. It has 5 discrete inputs for DVD's but lacks processor, so the DVD player must have it. Also it has a lot of gadgets for those who like to mess with them, including test tone for HT, prologic processor, you can set up the relative level and delay time between front and rear speakers, reverberation time, etc. It is powerful, the sound is rather clean. Suits perfectly for Home Theater use. Its declared THD figures are rather low <0.05 % !! (which obviously none of us average consumers won't ever be able to checkout). It has a full functional remote control, you can input codes to control other appliances (works fine with my SONY Wega TV set and Panasonic VCR) The phono stage is not superb, just OK.

Strengths:
Nice power, clean Yamaha "japanese" sound. Well built. Punchy, good for rock music, metal and films. Not so detailed for other kind of music.

Weaknesses:
Awkward performance tone controls. Typically Yamaha tone controls do "strange things" with medium range when enhancing treble, and even more noticeable on bass. But you can live with it, I guess. Not so detailed for other kind of music.

Review 3 of 14 , from Australia

Summary:
This is my first A/V receiver, I use it to watch the movie and listen the music. The sound is great and the bass of this unit is strong, you may need to adjust the subwoofer volume to low when listening the music. It is great to work with the Dolby digital decoder built-in DVD player, it was able to deliver the sound as good as a DD built-in receiver, but it can save you a few hundreds dollars. The DSP is good too, I love to use the Concept Hall mode to listen the Classic Music, feel like listening in the big Concept Hall. When you are watching the TV program, prologic/prologic enhacned mode are the good choices for you. It can produce the sound that the normal stero TV can never have.

Strengths:
Good sound in good price!

Weaknesses:
You cannot watch the DVD in DTS mode unless you have a DTS Built in decoder DVD player.
