Strength:

Steady, looks and performs like a rock. The frequency response is perfect so is power output of 100 W/channel. All discrete components readily available. Self cooling for long runs, very reasonably priced. No nonsense stuff in it unlike some japanese model.

Weakness:

No S-Video (All DVD have it these days not much of hassle)and DTS(this tech itself needs to get stable). This is a 1999 model but that should not stop you from buying it

I feel obliedged to write notes to my purchase of this system. I used a lot of such reviews to decide on buying this system. After doing an exhaustive survey, listening to demos of Yamahas,Denon,Harman Kardon, etc (in price range from $ 500 to $700), i decided this TEAC D9100. It is wonderful piece and match perfectly well with my BOSE Accoustimas 6 speakers.

Dosen't handle DTS

I decided to try TEAC 9100 based on comments here. I don't regret it one bit. Excellent sound quality for the price. Remote is not the most attractive one you will come across, but works perfectly fine.

Strength:

130 wattsx2;100x5 in surround modes. high current,ultra-wide bandwidth,dolbyd/dts decoding on scree n display, and component video switching. No hiss at high volumes in any mode.

Weakness:

speaker A is default always in the surround mode. no multiroom/source capabilities, if you are that picky.

This is the new TEAC AG-D9320 Receiver. Ipreviously owned the 9100 and decided to upgrade to dts. This unit is amazing because of it power, features and value. A very clean sound. The subwoofer is acitve in the stereo mode, unlike the teac 9100 which was active only in the surround modes. Check this out---24-bit/96 KHz D/A Converters, Source Direct, Night Mode. Digital Outputs: Optical-1; In: Optical-2, Coaxial-1. S-Video: Inputs-3, Outputs-2. 6 in and 6 out. Binding Post On all Terminals. A/B speaker selectors. sleep timer and more for ONLY $399.00 WOW. I know it is hard to beleive. I auditioned the Marrantz SR 7000 and cannot tell any differences, maybe even the 8000. What a Value-- too good to be true. Purchased at www.jandr.com. Thank you again TEAC. I would give this receiver more than five stars if possibly!!!!

I am very satisfied with this receiver. This was my first time shopping for a stereo system. I moved into a house and pre-wired it for surround sound. My first big task was to find a good receiver that does not cost an arm and a leg. The AGD9100 was my choice. It puts out a lot of sound and you can't beat the price. This receiver can hang with the best of the higher end models. And believe me I went to plenty of stores before settling on this receiver. The features are great and the match with my Infinity speakers (CC2 center, RS3 fronts, and QPS1 rears) make an astounding home theatre system. You will not be disappointed by owning this receiver. Thanks to the reviews I read from this site for helping me make a good decision.

Strength:

easy to use, great sound, no problems.

Weakness:

speaker B can only be listened to in stereo mode, remote.

Great product. Picked this bad boy up at onsale.com for $150 US and it kicks some ass. Have almost everything hooked up to it. Computer, playstation (using vid 3 on the front), VHS, CD, and DVD. The dial on the front is great and you just twist it to select your function and then your off.

The remote is a pain and I don't bother using the thing. It serves almost no purpose. That's it.

See special review of TEAC Company.

I just want to clear up some incorrect information. TEAC is Japanese and not Korean. Where they have individual components manufactured is always a mystery. They are also the TASCAM company who makes high quality portable studio recording/mixing equipment. In addition they make those wonderful black boxes that airliners use. Although they've been a hit and miss in the USA, they have a good following outside this country. The saddest decision they ever made was getting into the low end audio market, the same mistake Marantz made in the 1980's.

CHEAP AND STILL COMPETITIVE

I'm actually going to buy the new model the 9320. I was just comparing it against revies here. It seems the Teac has fixed most of the complaints mentioned here. I'm gona check out the sub thing on the new model tommorow. However I use a Pasive sub which I then plug my mains into.. Therefore ill always have BASS! Also considering the fact that you can disable the sub and all those lower HZ's are re-routed to the mains. WAAAAHOOOOOOOO and the new model has DTS to boot same 96khz 24bit d/a. I compared it to the onkyo 575/ 676 and yamaha 995, as well all the pioneer dennon and nakamichi line of recievers.. Needless to say there all EXPENSIVE, and believe it or not lack half the features with the same or similar distortion / power levels. WHAT A JOKE! Teac is the greatest deal ive found so far.. I'm goin to COSTCO to GET IT!
P.S. Gotta love that costco warrenty, return it whenever!

Strength:

Overall capability, clean amp, price, surround features.

Weakness:

TEAC as a company will not commit to the American Market. Most of their products are on the low cost side. Many people don't even know they invented the small studio recording market (see TASCAM). There professional equipment is some of the best. In Europe they work with Tannoy (the best recording monitors made), using their monitors along with their studio recording equipment.

I bought this receiver based on the high specs of the Amp and surround sound capability. It has most of the bells and whistles. It is very easy to get around the stereo/subwoofer issue by running it in the Hall mode and turning the center off (phantom position). This redirects the sound back to the Left and Right only, and leave the LFE(subwoofer mode intact). If you have a high quality center speaker, I suggest leaving the center running as ambient reverberation is added to the sound stage at a lower level. Since this model is being superceded by a new DTS compatible model, its a mute point to recommend looking for it, except in discount warehouses. If you can find one, and don't have $800 dollars to buy a surround receiver, then try this one.
