Review 2 of 56

Price Paid:  $175.00 from Sears

Summary:
Purchased the sony str de925 at sears. It was the demo so i got a good price for a new/used item. I have used this off and on for the past 10 years. It has always performed flawlessly. I just hooked it up in my new apartment again. Since all of my other components are also sony it makes it very easy because their is only one remote, and it controls everything. Sound is crystal clear. It decodes all digital formats. I am pushing a custom pair of JBL speakers. 15 inch woofer with the jbl bullet tweeters. Man does it sound good. You can not go wrong with this series of a/v receivers.
This receiver is currently running my sony tv, sony cd player and dvd player and the best thing is only one remote. It also features 4 separate optical hookups for your entertainment system. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone who wants a quality sytem for a fair price.

Strengths:
1) sound
2) performance
3) price

Recommended to anyone who wants a quality digital sytem for a fair price.

Weaknesses:
None

Good sound and flexability as Sony usually does for the money. So far no reliablity issues have come up with anything that I have(All of which is Sony).

Strengths:
Quiet and powerful sound.

Weaknesses:
No Optical input for a CD player, I don't get that becuse Sony was the big pusher for that!

Review 4 of 56

Price Paid:  $350.00 from Ultimate Electronics

Summary:
Well I have read reviews on this receiver and I am mystified by how your receiver is behaving. After reading all the reviews I wonder how many of you guys actually sat down and read the manual and tweaked with the settings. For that one guy that said he couldn't get the volume past 11 oclock with out static. Well on mine I can get it to about 12 to 3 without static although extremly loud. Any how I got my receiver on a Sell at Ultimate Electronics. It was a demo unit cause they ran out so quick. It was about 350 bones. When I bought it they didn't have or couldn't find the remote. I complained a couple times before they gave me a remote. The Remote has a test tone for setting up the speakers. Works great no problems at all except delay in DTS audio tracks. It does get hot but give it some breathing room. I have heard slight hiss but not enough to get me jumping up and down angry. Also if you use speakers that can't take the full 110 watts for each speaker there is some hiss or static when you turn up or down the volume. As for the sound fields I think they can be improved or taken out altogether. Many of the sound fields can be tinny but there are options to set to stop that. Sit down Read the manual and play with the buttons you learn lots if you do this!

Strengths:
Great Audio Nice amount of options lots of inputs

Weaknesses:
Takes a long amount of time to setup right! Not for the average Joe blow. DTS Audio Delay problem no S-video(but no biggy)

Review 5 of 56

Price Paid:  $599.00 from circuit city

Summary:
This reciever was one of the best when I bought it back in 1999, but with all of the new models coming out I am getting jealous. This unit has worked fine for me for 3 years now with only the ususal no sound problem. What is up with that? I have owned many Sony products and have seen some quality issues from them in the past few years. Such as my Sony dvd player that lasted only a year. Overall this reciever gets an A, but could use a little cleaner amp 0.09%thd compared to the competitors 0.05%. I think that when I decide to upgrade in the near future I will be switching to Denon for the sound quality and the build quality.

Strengths:
Great features at the time, s-link, 2 way remote, many soundfields.

Weaknesses:
No sound problem about every 2 months or so, and confusing eq settings

Similar Products Used:
other sony receivers

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
