Review 2 of 5

Price Paid:  $89.00

Summary:
I think it wise to confess right off that I'm one of those lunatic vinyl/ Vacuum tube audiophiles, who thinks nothing of spending $600 for a meter of phono cables. After years of doing this, I've come to some very basic conclusions.....simplicity is the key! This "SIMPLE" Sherwood 2 channel receiver weighs in at a whopping 21 lbs. That tells you that it has a very beefy power transformer. This is a GOOD thing. It does not complicate things with 5.1 channels. This is a GOOD thing. I've listened to so many audio systems with flat frequencies throughout the audio spectrum (Another GOOD thing)that I instantly recognized the same sonic signature in this little model. There IS bass......it's just not bloated with a bass boost option!

Strengths:
Huge Power trannie/ very simple 2 channel circuitry/ No bloated bass, just nice clean sound reproduction for very little money. It's great for the garage audio system.

Weaknesses:
I don't know....I guess I wouldn't be able to connect my $2,500 speaker cables to the thing with those little wire thingy's instead of XLR, DIN or RCA connections.....as if I'd want to !

Review 3 of 5

Price Paid:  $69.00 from CircutCity

Summary:
Bought one of these for my 14 year old son's first stereo system last Christmas. The majority of Sherwood's products offer excellent bang for the buck and this one is no different. I heard no audible difference between this unit and the Sony or Technics receivers which generally sell for around double the price that I paid. 105 watts per channel for $69! Thats a value in my book.

Strengths:
Easy layout, 105 watts for a steal, seems to be solidly built.

Weaknesses:
Setting up the tuner preselects seems a little complicated. No external AC outlet on the unit for piggybacking CD player.

Similar Products Used:
Jolida 202 tube amp, Yamaha 2020 Receiver, Harman/Kardom 460ki receiver, Sony and Technics receivers

Review 4 of 5

Price Paid:  $100.00 from mom and pop store

Summary:
The system is good for what its intentioned for, radio broadcast. The good thing is that is could pick up pretty faint signals with a properly set up antanae. I have this hooked up to my TV set and I get great sound. I like it. It has enough power to let me hear everything and if you place speakers strategecally around the theater room its pretty good. The cons are that im trying to set up a universal remote to it and cant find the code for it. so if you plan to use one control for all your stuff, well i doubt youll get it working.

Strengths:
good audio simple design does what its suppost to do well

Weaknesses:
cant get a universal remote to work with it

Review 5 of 5

Price Paid:  $89.00 from Circuit City

Summary:
I purchased this because I wanted a very cheap receiver for my den. I have my main A/V expensive system for my family room. I thought it was a good buy considering the price. I had it hooked up to a pair of Bose 100's and it sounded very tinty. Hardly any bass and too much treble. Unit lacks Mid range. I notced a much better deal for a Pioneer A/V (even though I didn't need it) on Ebay and took the Sherwood back to the store. This unit would be great for a starter stereo for a young teen or college dorm student.

Strengths:
Price and size, 30 station preset.

Weaknesses:
Searching the 30 station presets, too complicated. Lacks Bass. Treble was too high.

Similar Products Used:
My other receiver is a Pioneer Elite VSX-24thx

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
