Strengths: Power output, built-in DSP, low THD. Speaker connection and remote are the types an engineer would look for.Weaknesses: Incapable of onscreen display.Bottom Line: Have used and did extensive audio tests using HP network analyzer and found this product comparable to Onkyo DS494 based on data collected. Speakers used are locally made but output generated by Pioneer VSX-D511 is very good.

Strengths: Ease of set up, nice appearance, puts out great sound (when coupled with good speakers, naturally)and 3 year warranty.Weaknesses: Poor remote control, speaker clips - even a base model shouldn't have these anymore, tone test is weak making it diffciult to calibrate.Bottom Line: Brought this reciever (2002 model) a few of weeks ago and has exceeded expectations to date. 5 x 120 watts per channel coupled with DTS, Doby Digital and Pro Logic II makes this a great asset to home threatre setup (including 5 DVDs thrown in). Also has an array of sound enhancements but who ever uses them. It rrp was $749 but with a bit oh haggling was able to get it down to $590.
