Picked up the Pioneer Elite VSX-49TX for only $475.00 on Craigs List! I new that I had made a good deal but until I got it home and spent about 8 hrs listening and tweeking did I realize just how good this reciever is. One of the reasons it was sold is because it has no HDMI support. Who cares!! You can't even come close to this kind of sound for less than 2 or 3 thousand bucks! I had to add more support to my wall unit because of the 67lbs. I am running my Pioneer Blu-Ray players analog outs to the 7.1 input's for DTS HD and Dolby HD. Also running in 5.1 and bi amp the front speaders with the extra amp. The DA convert is fantastic for DVD
and I am back to just listening to STEREO again. If you can find one buy it It will last a lifetime! Built in Japan

The unit will clip at 4ohm load or less, true........if you fail to read the manual and set the speaker option to "large". The 49tx has a default set to small intially..lol.

With that said...this receiver is the shizzle!!!! I heard wood sticks before drum impacts and could tell distance and space changes. Is it a krell...heck no!! But at 500 bucks....you get 4000 buck sound. What gets me is the smooth natral tones..no bass or treble...just music and actual sounds of the objects recorded.

Class D amp power rocks....if you have never heard tube like buttery, natural, scary referance A/B MOSFET juice. The caps inside my recever are bigger than a can of V8 juice and the transformer feel like its stuck in the powerfull gravitational pull of a black hole when I attemp to pick up my unit. lol People think I'm a mad man because they hear breaking glass and sounds of crashing items that must be real! It aint baby....its the pioneer dear...fear the neer!!!!

Your wife will drop dishes and pets will stay out of the room. People will knock on your door asking it your ok.

Un mached power and clairitey. Beautiful piece of equipment. Easy to use for those technologicley impaired people. Best construction of a receiver. Still Black.

This is the best av receiver that I could find . This receiver blew away all the Denon,sony,yamaha,harmon kardon receivers that I could find in their top models. To compare I used lord of the rings 1 and Dare devil for movies and bass mekanic audeo demo disks with my klipsch RF-7 fronts RC-7 center and two pair of RF-5 forsurrounds. I never hert any of the receivers but after an hour at about 95% volume they all had isues except the 49 txi the only one that would keep up at all for claritey was the Harmon Kardon 7300. It only held clean up to about 75% of the volume. The TXI 49 was clean up to plus 2 on the volume from minus 80 and it actuley ran cooler at higher volumes then at lower the compotition all ran way hoter then I was comfertabol with. I realy enjoy the way this receiver up converts all of the video to component. So you do not have to fidle with each home theater piece. The front panel diming option is nice as well. there are plenty of hook up options for many home theater components. The remote is completely un mached by any of the compotition you can create your own butons and label them. This unit also gets realy good radio reception. Build quality, remote, MCACC, video upconversion

This is Pioneer's top of the line receiver. This has been a big stepup from my previous Sony receiver. Sound is just awesome for both HT and music, very natural indeed. And the MCACC feature definitely makes a difference in sound. Turning this feature on make the speakers blend very nicely (I'm temporarily using JBL surrounds with Klipsch Reference mains/center). The video up-conversion is very practical, as only 1 connection is needed between the receiver and TV. The control is also pretty good, it can pretty much control all your HT gear. This is for the new VSX-49TXi I have had this receiver for a couple weeks and can say it is the best reciever I have ever owned! The sound is awesome, setup is very easy and has all the fetures one could ask for. 99% of it's use in my setup is for watching movies and for this perpass it absolutely excells in everyway and in my opinion the remote is awesome also. I have a Pronto that I have not touched since getting this remote, it easely works everything in my home theater and the screen is a little easier on the eye's. Read the reviews you wont be disappointed.

Sound quality

My Bass Boat isn't getting any use

Very clean warm sounding. This unit brought out the musical sound track on DVDs so much better than my low end Costco special. lol I went into this knowing the sound would be a bit better, but never imagined a nice receiver could bring out sounds not only better, but also some I have never heard before. The background music sounds like a live orchestra Vs an AM transistor radio on my old unit. Stereo is also better as it is warm, cleaner and has more authority, but the biggest improvement was 5.1 quality for me. I have had the opportunity to see how ea. Piece of a high-end HT setup makes a difference. My first upgrade was a Wide screen Elite 53" TV(RPTV). This is what made me raise my audio standards...If you haven't seen one, picture Sony making a 53" picture tube and that's how nice it looks... I then purchased Def Techs BP2000 towers, then a CLR3000 center, now a 49TX. Soon my BPXs will be here, and I will have little need to go to a theater again....lol How often does a Star Wars type(must see theater)movie really come out? I found my self watching tons of HBO as I now can run my sat dish into the rec for sound...Wow, many of these movies have great music sound tracks on them and enlighten the viewing experience so much that I want to watch them again. This puppy is pure quality....even the microphone compares to the high quality of my Shure SM58 professional mic(both very heavy) Watching HD Discovery with this quality sound is amazing!!! Speakers make the most difference, but a nice receiver will bring out the full potential of your DVD content like it was intended for. I can See(I mean HEAR) why THX certified this puppy! i have the denon 5800 but after reading about this new thx ultra 2 returned the 5800 and waited for this it does sounds better than denon 5800 played gladiator,independence day, terminator its does sounds real great in thx ultra 2 mcaa does looks cool but never use them i like it flat it does have the sharc, mototrola, burr brown dsp chip so its worth it just waiting for a good dvd progressive scan with foroudja chip equipment: mit 65857 pio 49 tx b&w 604 s2 L&R cc6 center ds6 dipole 2 602 s2 back 2 velo vlf 1012

Build quality and finish, sound quality and power, auto speaker calibration, video upconversion, plenty of inputs, remote is easy to use once programmed and very flexible, every sound format available.

It is a bit more expensive than your average receiver, although you get your three grand worth. Your friends might hate you after hearing it.

This is the receiver I wished I had bought two years ago. It has every feature I could want, from auto calibration for speaker settings to upconversion of all video signals to component video out. All that, and it doesn''t sound half bad either. I thought my VSX-39TX was pretty nicely built, but this thing is built like a proverbial brick out-house. The power supply in this thing is massive. The caps are so big that when I looked inside, I thought they had stuck a couple of soda cans inside it. It took an effort to get it into place. The metal front is very nicely polished - this is the best looking black box receiver, even without the rosewood side panels. Running the auto calibration was a trip. It setup distances, levels, and equalization for all seven speakers - the difference from that and my trial and error setup with the VSX-39TX was amazing. Sound was great, and effects were spot on. The remote that some complain about isn''t nearly as bad as some would have you believe. While it isn''t a Pronto, it also isn''t an Atkis either. This is the second version of this remote that I''ve used, so I''m accustomed to it. I like that the inputs are set along the sides of the screen, you don''t have to hit a button to get a screen of inputs. You can''t change the labels, but that''s hardly a real problem - there are so many inputs and they are labeled practically, so unless you have a fourth VCR or a second CD-R, you don''t have to worry. Pioneer added the ability to edit the keys by pixels - allowing you to edit any key to anything you want it to look like - although you''re limited to two shades of grey and a few dozen pixels. But it is plently flexible for most practical uses. For those who don''t have fifty devices or plan to play Tetris on their remote, you''ll probably find this remote more than adequate.
