Price Paid:  $89.00 from shoponkyo.com

Summary:
I was pleasantly surprised that a receiver at this price point (<$200.00) could actually sound as good as it does. Purchased as a refurb from shoponkyo.com, I was hesitant since this was a price point motivated purchase to use as a secondary receiver for bedroom use.
I used Wharfedale Diamond 8.1's for about 6 months and knowing there quality, I wasn't disappointed at how the lil Onk pushed these British Monitors.. Sweeet I thought, listening to "Art Pepper Meets the Rhythym Section" through an onkyo dv-sp300, (also a refurb from shoponkyo.com, $89.00) I went as far as to hook up some beefy Infinity 6Kappa's <4ohm loads and the lil Onk didn't even break a sweat.. It played them relatively loud for such a receiver to handle that difficult load. For the last 9 months, the Onk and a Denon DRA345R have driven a pair of Celestion DL4II's, they are just wonderful sounding speakers..:)
The tuner is good to very good, the remote is decent for this unit, not a lot of inputs.. wish it had a sub out.. but hell, for the price I'm not complaining.. This is a good receiver for about any use... Nice going Onkyo :)

Strengths:
Looks, exc. sound quality with many different speakers, Seems more powerful than the rated 50wpc..

Weaknesses:
few inputs, no sub pre-out

Magnepan Magneplanar MG 1.6 User Review

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
