Strength:

Superb sound quality without hiss, and low tolerance components.

Weakness:

None so far!!!

For the price of the DTR-5 you have the quality of a much more expensive unit. The people who sold this unit to me were very knowledgable (the oldest onkyo dealer in the US). The tolerance of the parts used in the integra line is 1% or less. I can believe it as far as I can hear. I've got the DTR-5 matched with paradigm monitor 5's with a paradigm, center, sub and Titan surrounds..... very impressive with the Eagles "Hell freezes over" in DTS.... give it a try... you won't be disapointed!!!!

Strength:

Superb sound quality. Quiet as a mouse. Excellent craftmanship. Very easy to setup.

Weakness:

Really none except the fact that it doesn't remember channel level settings.

Purchased this unit for $425 from a local dealer to be used in a modest Home Theatre System with the following items:
- Toshiba 43" Cinema Series Projection TV - Model 43V71.
- Toshiba SD-1200 DVD Player.
- Sharp HC-800U Stereo, S/VHS Compatible VCR.
- Paradigm Atoms - Front.
- Paradigm Micros - Rear.
- Paradigm CC-70 - Center.
- Paradigm PDR-10 Subwoofer.
All of this equipment worked perfectly right out of the box. My main music system is all McIntosh so I usually proceed with caution regarding other equipment. I can honestly say that this Integra DTR-5 amazes me how they can offer this unit at this price level. Highly recommended!

Strength:

Easy Setup,clear sounding center chanel

Weakness:

Lack of bottom end punch

Here is the dilema, what do you do when you like the sound of an amp but it comes out haveing a lot of operational problems? You drive yourself (and everyone Around you ie wife, children, friends) nuts trying to find that level of sound in a receiver that works. The H/K AVR500 sounded fantastic, open top end without being brittle and fatiguing nice bottom end with punch! BUT from time to time it would (in DTS mode) give out this annoying distortion from one of the channels. Hence, the seach begins and has not ended.
I realy wanted to like this amp,BUT the lack of bottom end is unacceptable. The problem seems to be with its A/D coverters. When listening to my favorite cds through the stock cd players dacs the punch it there, but it goes away when you switch to the DTR-5 internal converters.I hope Onkyo trys again, they came close.
Stay Tuned to see where the saga will end!

Strength:

Nice range of features for the money. Remote can learn, and has macros. Rated at 70 WATTS per channel, but sounds more like 100 WATTS per. Clean Sound.

Weakness:

No binding posts for rear surrounds.

Great for entry-level surround receiver. Real big sound.
I was comparing the Onkyo Integra and a Yamaha, but I felt that the Integra was a better value and better quality. After all, Onkyo doesn't build motorcycles.

Good price for the speakers at Sound Unlimited also. I got a pair of PSB Alpha A/Vs for $250, I liked them better than the PSB Image 1Bs and much more than the Paradigms in the price range.

The combo is perfect for my small Apartment. I will soon buy the center channel speaker and sub, with another pair of the Alpha A/Vs for the rear surrounds.

Strength:

The remote is awesome, Gold Plating, plenty of power, the Aluminum front face.

Weakness:

No binding posts on the rear channel speakers.

Not a bad receiver for a 17 year old high schooler to own. This is actually my second Dolby Digital reciver, my first was the famous Technics DX-930, but i never got to use the Dolby Digital part of it. To tell you the truth i came accross this receiver on accident, i was looking for the Onkyo DR-90, and i saw this on sale, the 575 was still $525 there! So i went back later on to buy the DTR-5, while i still had the Technics (i used that to power 2 Rockford Fossgate 10" subs...haha). When i went to get the DTR-5 i had also noticed the DPS-5 hooked up to it and decided to buy that 2 weeks later and finish my home theater. I love everything about this receiver, and would only give it up to buy a upper model Integra!!

Strength:

Price, sound, 5.1 channel stereo,

Weakness:

small hiss with no input and cranked to full volume

Just one word, SWEET... for all those people out there that complained about the 575 not having gold plating on it pick this version of the reciver up and quit your griping. The hiss like stated above is only present when i have no signal input and have it cranked to max. compaired with the pioneer it keeps up in power for its 70 watt rating, the pioneer is rated at 200watts RMS at 6 ohms. It totally blew the JVC i had away, i had to go back and watch all my movies again well all the DVD's at least. The 5.1 stereo is a nice setup for listing to music. For any of you out there making the step from dolby pro to digital this reciver is a great investment. Pick it up in stores for about 500

Strength:

Nice, wide variety of features. Great sound for both HT and stereo on a modest budget.

Weakness:

Spring clip connects for rear and B speakers, no S-video switching, no back-lit remote as yet.

Excellent value at this price point ($489 from local authorized dealer) with a great variety of features combine for a very nice sounding piece of equipment. A great piece which can be utilized in stereo applications by budget-minded buyers looking to have one system for both home theater and stereo.

Current setup, for what it's worth, has worked well:

Front: Klipsch KSB 3.1
Center: Klipsch KSC KSC-1
Rear: Klipsch KSB 1.1
Sub: Mirage FRX-S10
DVD: Toshiba SD2109
TV: 27" Panasonic
All standard 2 Monster Cable interconnects, 12 guage speaker wire.

Strength:

easy to setup, good value and GREAT SOUND! NO HISS.

Weakness:

surround speaker plugs

the sound is VERY impressive. responsive sound. clear sound . i have been using this receiver for both movies and music for about 2 months and i still can't wait to get home from work to enjoy it. the way you can setup and adjust each speaker channel is great! three digital inputs is nice...the remote is very good in my opinion, even if it is not back-lit. it is easy enough to use in the dark anyway. for the price, i can do without s-video or extra pre-outs. if you hear hiss on any amp in the store, it might NOT be correctly connected, setup, or configured. i here no hiss at all on this integra DTR 5 in the comfort of my cozy apartment! :)

i paired this a/v receiver with energy's take5 and its really GREAT!

Strength:

Bargain price

Weakness:

Clumsy bass management, lack of per-source memory

For the money, not a bad buy.

Sound is detailed and imaging is stable even for very demanding scenes. During the beginning of Tomorrow Never Dies the Onkyo does reasonably well despite all manner of bass-heavy chaos. Vocals are clearly positioned and foley sounds are articulated cleanly.

Dynamic range is ok. The receiver had trouble keeping up with The 5th Element.

For music I prefer setting Subwoofer to NO. The sub otherwise is overpowering. You can set the level for the sub, but this setting is effective for all sources - it would be nice if the receiver would remember the level setting for each source. Furthermore, you can't turn off the sub with the remote. You have to configure it at the front panel.

Musically, the receiver seems a little...wan, lacking in attack. And again, bass is a bit thin. There's a bass
control, but turning it up introduces boom and congestion in the mid-range.

I use this receiver with Tannoy Revolution R3s, Tannoy M1 surrounds, Mc center channel, and a Velodyne sub.

I compared this receiver with the Sony DE635 which was truly a shoddy piece of equipment. Muddy sound, dubious power rating, flat dynamics. The Onkyo is vastly superior --> much more than the ~$200 differential would suggest.

I use a Rega Mira to compare its 2-channel musical capabilities. The Onkyo cannot compete, of course. But the comparison does highlight some weaknesses that are endemic to most home theater receivers...poor bass amplification, thin, bright sound.

Remote is relentlessly mediocre. Busy and it doesn't have any preprogrammed codes. No backlighting.

Tuner is unremarkable.
