Summary:
well i bought a brand new t761 for myself, and a refurbished one for my mom. we have both used them extensively since late 2005 with no problems at all. i guess we got lucky, but the sound quality seems top notch, i have used this with b&w's and def tech speakers and the t761 makes the def techs sound as good as any other receiver that i used to demo other def techs at a few local high end a/v stores. i wish i would have waited for a better price, but after the problem free 2+ years i feel great about the purchase. due to all the negative reviews, i would probably not purchase another nad product without careful consideration, but so far so good. even disregarding the onslaught of negative reviews, i love the sound, the controls are simple, plenty of power and headroom. compared to any other $900 receiver i ever used, heard or demoed, this seems at least worth the money, if not more.

Strengths:
good solid neutral sound, should blend nicely with most speaker brands. plenty of power for your average bookshelf or small tower speaker. like most receivers in this range, there are plenty of connection possibilities on the back, and a convenient extra set of inputs on the front panel, as well as all the adjustments you would need for bass, treble, surround delay, large and small speaker settings, etc.

Weaknesses:
no ambiance settings like "stadium" or "dance hall", many receivers have these, as well as a bunch of other useless bells and whistles. i dont really take these as weaknesses, but some people expect these things in this price range.

Similar Products Used:
quite a few department store brands, pioneer, kenwood, etc. nad is way better if you dont buy one of the "bad" ones.

Summary:
Well my T761 finally got the best of me--this thing was a mess from day one--see my post from 2001--in the end all left channels went out. Spoke with audio rebuild shop NYC and was told that the T761 was junk when it was new---not worth trying to fix --and I must say-- I GOT GREAT FEELING OF JOY AS I THREW IT DOWN MY CELLAR STAIRS AND BEAT IT WITH A BALLPEAN HAMMER. How does a company sell crap like this? Only can happen in a corporate facist state- that is AMERIKA today A CORPORATE POLICE STATE. To the thieves at LENNBROOK who sold these defective pieces of crap----REMEMBER 1930'S GERMANY In the words of an American Founding Father "You need a good rap on you snouts". On the bright side NAD will NEVER screw me again--just put in my order for a Arcam AVR 300 . Hope.........

Summary:
This is an update of my previous review from sept. 2002...well the NAD bug finally bit me! The digital functions have stopped working, I only can use non-digital sources to get sound from the reciever. Also seems that everything but the front r&l channels are now dead (even level self test does not work)....so, while I liked the NAD and it was not DOA, it DID die after a few years of use...I guess I will buy a different bradn next time

Strengths:
great sound, nice looks, good array of inputs and outputs

Weaknesses:
reliablity, bad remote

Summary:
This is a follow up to a review I posted a year ago after purchasing and owning this unit for a little under one year. I have owned it for two years now. And it has been in the shop twice since then. The first time, after the one year mark, it was the *pop* *smoke* issue - ? Sent it in for repair via local audio shop who is also an NAD dealer. Service took a while - month plus. And they were pretty lackadaisical about when it would be done or the status of the repair...which I guess I can understand since they didn't sell me the unit and were not the ones in control of the situation...but you would think, being an NAD dealer, that they would want to inspire some confidence in the brand...The latest issue was interesting. Upon turning the unit on, it would only make terrible static noises in Dolby and pretty much any other mode except stereo until it warmed up. And even then it would drop the left channel until it had been running a while. After maybe 10 - 20 mins I could switch back to Dolby and it would be OK. Still, not good. So, I checked the warrenty and oh #%^* - it expired the next day. So, I called up DMC and, given the situation, they suggested I call NAD directly. This I did right away. I must say that NAD was very cool about the situation. I popped the receiver in the mail and they honored the warrenty. Service time was short and they fixed the problem - bad capacitor and a couple of boards needed to be soldered. So, got it back and it is working fine for the moment. Now, since this is my "daily driver" - being run for sound on the TV as well as HT, it is very annoying to have to be without for one month + out of any given year...and, now that the warrenty is expired, I am wondering if the bills for repair will change my mind? But the catch is that this unit sounds so sweet. It is synonymous the girl with great looks who treats you like dirt and spends all your money. 'Baby, you're fine, but why you gotta be like that? When are you coming home?'

Strengths:
Pre-outs for separate amping. Great sound. Detailed. Crystal clear. Channel separation on DVD is supurb - even on cable/OTA TV there is no bleading or cross talk on channels. Typical NAD - power rating at 80 is very conservative - outperforms other amps with higher ratings. I can disturb the neighbors easily without overdriving the amp.

Weaknesses:
Reliability, build quality.

Summary:
I have always been impressed of audio quality in which NAD components re-produce and decided to purchase a NAD T761 surround sound receiver. My initial experience had been a disaster with a couple of factory refurbished NAD T761 receivers that I purchased at the dealer. The first receiver only lasted a few hours before the front-left and rear-left channel failed. I return to the dealer and they were happy to replace it with another receiver. Moments after plugging the receiver into the wall and turning it on, the receiver made a loud POP and began to smoke. I found the casting of a small capacitor on the floor; which somehow projected through the vents on top of the chassis. Once again I was back at the dealer. I was feeling very disappointed and was considering to purchase different receiver. After going through two NAD lemons, the dealer said they would give me a brand new NAD T761 receiver. So far, it has been 3+ years and I have not experience any problems yet. I have been satisfied with audio quality in 2 channel stereo and 5.1 surround sound modes.

Strengths:
Great audio quality as expected; Simple chassis design (no fluff);

Weaknesses:
QC control; It’s been 3+ year and I’m wondering when this receiver will decide to go “belly-up”.
