hi
I just bought my kr-v88d receiver and its feels great

the receiver has Dolby surround and Dolby digital 5.1 channels

and it also provide Dolby pro logic for Dolby surround TV show

so I think it a good deal for a low price
very smart choice

bye

Good for movie viewing, especially in DD 5.1 mode. With my powered subwoofer, the bass is enough to scare my cat during explosions in movies. Not too bad when playing properly recorded classical music CDs. I can roughly make out the different positions of the different instruments in an orchestra. The piano and the violins make a presence outside the speaker boxes (comparing with eyes shut to my real-life experience in orchestra concerts). However, when playing some lower quality CDs (ADD, AAD or pop music) the voice and instruments sound trapped inside the speakers. Good price also (I got mine with 6 speakers at approx. US$1050).

This product has no Svideo capability. There is no DTS compatibiity. The sound is average whilst dd offers an acceptable movie viewing. Overall, an average product.

I'm not very unhappy with this receiver, but the lack of S-Video and DTS capability is too much. Regarding the sound, it is not bad, but comparing to what I heard from Yamaha, Onkyo and Sony, something is missing, particulary there is a lack of bass. Remote-control is not user-friendly. I intend to sale it.

The KR-V888d is an average receiver with above average audio sound quality; thin sounding and lacks bass at times. The video aspect is good; comes with a demodulator for LD AC3 RF signals although it lacks s-video and inputs for future upgrading. I have compared this with Onkyo TXSV444 which was my first receiver and the Onkyo sounded better than the 888 although the latter lacks the DD capabilities. From where I come from the 888 is not a budget receiver - est. $900. Considering its features at this price, you could find better receivers like the Yamaha 595, 793, 795 and Denon 2700 and 3200(my latest acquisition!) I've parted ways with the 888d by trading it with the Yamaha RXV 1070 - the predecessor of the DSP A1 and 3090 which is an excellent audio (Front and Center with THD .015 at 110 db 8 ohms!!!) and video receiver (Dolby Prologic).

Strength:

A lot for the price.

Weakness:

Video IN/OUT, strenght,

I have used this amplifier with
Front: Cerwin Vega VS15
Center: Cerwin Vega E-Serie
Back: Cerwin Vega VS10

and I am surprised how well that amplifiers handels
the speakers. The speakers doesn't require much power
to play loud, but they deserve A LOT more.

The BASS is great and it contiunes to the lowest freq.

If you are listening to Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, you'll
get great sound, but in stereo mode and CD-listening,
the strenght becomes too weak.

One of the best ALLROUND PRICE/PERFORMANCE amplifier when
released.
