Summary:
Replaced a JVC RX884 with this model and am impressed. No problems with construction or performance. I purchased to upgrade to HI Def and D Theater D-VHS movies. The unit offers HDMI. Remote operates all AV equipment which is JVC.

The receiver has an auto detect mode for digital audio input or you can select manually. AV Compulink works for S-video and component switching.

Strengths:
Looks good and matches D-VHS unit. Quiet, efficient and clean digital amp section with side vent and fan for heat rejection. HDMI for D Theater provides the best soundtrack you will ever hear. HDMI Video switching provides 1080i or 720p - its all good. DVD 480p component video upconverts through HDMI output. AV Compulink is best feature for ease of system operation when switching from TV to DVD to D-VHS. It turns everything on or off and adjusts to correct inputs, outputs and previous settings with one touch of the remote.

The receiver remote can control almost all AV system controls with few exceptions. It is usually all you need in your hand for seamless control of a JVC system.

Weaknesses:
Receiver remote will not control D-VHS audio mode output. You have to use the D-VHS remote to switch to DTS output.

When receiver video output is set to HDMI, Compulink will not auto-switch the display to the digital input (HDMI) - this may be a problem with the Compulink control in the display (JVC PD-42X795)
