Price Paid:  $300.00 from Krasnodar, Russia

Summary:
Very nice and quality receiver! I Like it from first view! I have use it with P&J 4600 acoustic system. Unfortunately, this receiver required speakers with 8-16Om...My speakers have 6Om, but sound is great! All channels split very well, and sounds is sharpen and detailed.

Price Paid:  $350.00 from Futureshop

Summary:
I heard an older model of JVC and was pleased with the sound so I tried the 7042... I had 30 days to return it.
I matched it with a base entry speakers and was please with the sound but didn't have enough punch. I upgraded the speakers to Quest QT66 (front), Quest QC5 (center), Quest QB6 (surrounds and rears) and 2 subs (Paradigm PDR-12 + PW-2200). It might be a "cheap" A/V receiver but it sounds great! You can adjust the distance of each speakers individually (except the rears as they count for 1 channel), the sound level and the tone of the center. It has a basic and effective EQ (63hz, 250hz, 1khz, 4khz and 16khz) + a 6db bass boost. You can crank it at 3/4 of the volume with no problems!!! It will get pretty hot though.

Strengths:
Cheap but complete

Weaknesses:
Need alot of fresh air as it will get pretty hot at 1/2+ the volume.
