Price Paid:  $599.00 from Tweeter

Summary:
The Denon avr-483 is a fantastic receiver for the price. At 70 watts x 5 this is a little misleading, as it is a hi current receiver. Basically that means you can turn up the volume to its maximum potential and get little to no distortion, versus the typical Sony receiver sold at your typical audio video store that claims to have 100 watts (if not more) x 5, and when the volume is turned up to half way, you'll notice a ton of distortion played at mid to high volume levels.
Even better, the Denon simpy blows away the competition in the same price group. You will notice Denon's warm sound presence which is what Denon's trademark sound is known for.
This is simply an outstanding receiver for the money hands down competing with much higher priced receivers sold at your local Best Buy etc....
Loaded with dts and dolby digital processors including dolby pro logic II which takes two channel audio converting to a full 5.1 surround sound experience! Being that this is a discontinued model now, you can find one on ebay for under $250 which is less than half the original msrp list price! I highly recommend buying the Denon avr-483 especially if you can find it for $300 or less!
It's very easy to set up, and very intuitive for the beginner audio enthusiast that wants high perfomance but has a limited budget. Buy one if you can find one, as they are getting harder to find these days, as most 483 owners won't sell simply because they realize what they have, hence hard to part with!

Strengths:
Solid performer with hi current transformer.
dts, dolby digital, dts-neo, dolby pro logic II for a full spectrum of todays surround formats!
Build quality is unsurpassed at its price class.
You'll spend nearly double to get the same performance, especially at discontinued prices.

Weaknesses:
Really none I can think of other than the typical manual complaints, as Denon expects its buyers to be "geek oriented" , but its still easy enough to figure out without having to rely on the user manual.

Similar Products Used:
Denon avr-2802, 3802, 3805 & 4308CI. I'll never buy another brand period when it comes to HT Receivers.
