Bottom Line:
I just purchased a like new condition Denon AVR-2600 from an estate sale. This receiver may be 13 years old but it has more gong for it than the 6 year old Onkyo TX-SR700 it replaced. The sound and power is amazing and so clear. Solid bass and crisp highs. Drives my Polk Audio Monitor 30 speakers and never blinks. I have an Onkyo DX-C390 6 disc CD player connected via a standard RCA patch cord. My old Onkyo had optical and I can not tell the difference. Excellent receiver ..... who says new is better?

This was my first and present receiver, bought it way back May'97,and i'm not thinking of upgrading yet cause i really like it a lot.Great for listening to music, very powerful amp IMHO,never had the need to turn the volume up at 1/3 mark. i like the 5 channel stereo as well as the AVSE when watching movies. It would have ben better if the rears were the same as the fronts.

Bottom Line:
Great receiver; clear, clean power; have never turned it past 1/3rd up. Sound is so clear that it's louder than it seems. Teamed up with Definitive BP10s as fronts and BP6s as rears, movies like Top Gun are a rush. Classical and vocal music are perfectly true to the original. Didn't think the receiver was so important (compared to speakers) until I replaced Sony with this Denon. It really opened up the sound. Since then I've compared with Harmon Kardon and HK just doesn't have the power of an equally-rated Denon. Only downsides are lower powered rear channels, no Dolby Digital (but is AC3-ready), and surround effects that are crude. Five channel stereo, though, can be great!

Bottom Line:
I've had this receiver for over 6 months now, and I've become addicted to my audio system! I'm using it with PSB 800 speakers and a Denon DCM-460 cd player. Paid $600 for it and it was worth every penny! Excellent bass, power handling and surround sound.
