Review 1 of 7

Price Paid:  $150.00 from Craigslist

Summary:
I had only a 2 channel amp (yamaha ax-596) and wanted surround sound capability. So i started looking on this site and after seeing decent reviews for this processor/amp i purchased it off craigslist for a decent price. I am very pleased with it. I won't say it sounds better than the high end surround sound processor/amps, but for the money it's a good piece of equipment. Hey if hifiuk gives this amp a good rating it has to be good.

Strengths:
Good sound, at a great price.

Weaknesses:
No dolby digital/dts but my dvd has dd/dts decoders built-in

Review 2 of 7

Price Paid:  $200.00 from Richer sounds

Summary:
I use this in my Linn system to drive Linn rear, centre & and active sub speakers, while my Linn amps drive the front L & R. On paper this amp should be well out of its depth in such a system and I only bought it to see what 5.1 sounds like before investing in some more audiophile kit. However I was extremely pleased with how it handled itself. The sound is crisp and TV in surround and movies in 5.1 is a step change in quality. I've now had the amp for 3 years and am reluctant to spend more money when a) it sounds so good, and b) the technology is moving so fast. Well done Yamaha.

Strengths:
Price Ease of use Sound quality Reliability

Weaknesses:
At this price nothing

Review 4 of 7

Price Paid:  $500.00 from RTV-Zabrze

Summary:
I want to discribe a very similar to Yamaha DSP E 492 processor/amplifier-Yamaha DSP E-800.It is DD/DTS processor and 3-channel amplifier(3*70watts 8ohm).Yamaha has 5 digital imputs(2 coaxial and 3 optical)and and 7 analog inputs, also S-video inputs and output,5.1channel inputs and outputs and of course ergonomical remote control. The sound is very natural, fast and well balanced.I use this product with 5 channel power amplifier Primare A30.5 and Paradigm Studio speakers. It sounds terrific and very realistic.

Strengths:
Natural,clean,dynamic sound,easy instalation,very good DD/DTS decoder,good stereo sound,a lot of inputs.Easy to upgrade using 5 channel powerful amplifier.

Weaknesses:
Plastic front panel.

Similar Products Used:
Rotel,Technics,Marantz

Review 5 of 7

Price Paid:  $150.00 from ebay

Summary:
Bought this unit to expand my Stereo system to 5.1 in the cheapest way. The Sound is clear and should fit to most 2channel Amps that will drive the front speakers. The 3*75W are fairly enought for most sets, if not you can attach external Amps to the pre-outs. It has 2 5.1 input fields allowing you to connect external Decoders. One is using the internal pre-amp the other one is only using the power amps of the E492. (useful when having an external decoder that is doing the volume control)

Strengths:
very flexible, cheap, easy set-up

Weaknesses:
Not all settings apply to the external 5.1 e.g. the delay for the rears cannot be adjusted. Also the LR an RR can not be adjusted seperately (as Dolby surround is not using this) My unit has some hiss when using the internal DSP''s which do not appear when using the external 5.1 input.
