, from Victoria, BC,Canada Summary: I jumped on this guy when they first came out, it does all of the Dolby Digital (DD) decoding well, clean and noise free. A RF decoder was important to me initally (pre DVD), but now DTS or PCM stereo would be a lot higher on my list.
The bass management is detailed and flexible, no short commings. The test tones and delay settings are easy to use and adjust, allowing for a properly set up system.
What I really miss is the remote control, and the ability to decode a stereo S/PDIF signal. For a DD home theater this unit will do it all. As most decoders are becoming harder to find, and all of the YAMAHA models are actually listed as discontinued, used ones are your only choice. I am looking a a Technics SH-AC500 for the PCM decoding, and it's remote control ability not to mention DTS. Strengths: Clean, flexible Dolby Digital Decoding Weaknesses: No Remote, will not decode PCM Stereo
