Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $179.00 from e-bay

Summary:
I have both products mentioned in two different systems. Both units perform thier functions without any problem. One good feature of the technics is that you can connect another 5.1 signal or processor to its line inputs. Yamaha is not as flexiable, but very easy to set & forget while it does its job. one less thing to worry about. All you have to do is enjoy the sound. Works for me!!!

Strengths:
detailed and accurate decoding

Weaknesses:
won't decode CD ( PCM ) audio

Similar Products Used:
SH-AC500D

Review 4 of 4

Summary:
I jumped on this guy when they first came out, it does all
of the Dolby Digital (DD) decoding well, clean and noise
free. A RF decoder was important to me initally (pre DVD),
but now DTS or PCM stereo would be a lot higher on my list.

The bass management is detailed and flexible, no short
commings. The test tones and delay settings are easy to use
and adjust, allowing for a properly set up system.

What I really miss is the remote control, and the ability
to decode a stereo S/PDIF signal. For a DD home theater
this unit will do it all. As most decoders are becoming
harder to find, and all of the YAMAHA models are actually
listed as discontinued, used ones are your only choice. I am looking a a Technics SH-AC500 for the PCM decoding, and
it's remote control ability not to mention DTS.

Strengths:
Clean, flexible Dolby Digital Decoding

Weaknesses:
No Remote, will not decode PCM Stereo

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
