I was really excited when I saw this unit. Years ago I bought the Sony XBR100 Square TV set. At the time, I wasn't into audio, or home theater, and bought the Sony Shoji stand but not the matching audio rack. I've regretted that for years.
About a month ago, I saw an ad for this audio stand that pretty closely matched my Shoji stand. Right after I opened that box I became worried about the strength of the shelves to support my receiver. The partical board shelves on this unit are only supported in the back. Because the clearance between shelves isn't high enough for my reciever to breath, I had to put it on the top shelf.
You can actually see the shelf slightly bend from the weight of the unit.
Nowhere in the documentation or website do they tell you how much weight these shelves can support. I called the company and left voice-mail for their engineering department but didn't hear back in over a week. Fortunately, their website listed their corporate e-mail addresses. The engineering guy never got back to me but I bet the president would. Sure enough, the next day after I sent my e-mail, the engineering VP writes back and says that the unit is meant for "standard" components weighing less than 30 lbs. Yeah right. Strengths:
Clean design. Blends well with the look of most components. Would work well for things like set top controllers, VCRs, DVD players, etc. Weaknesses:
Little strength. Can't support the weight of higher end equipment.
