Strength:

noticeable difference out of the box.

Weakness:

They could have made it look better.

Wanted to get something to improve my stereo system and found this gadget from audio advisor. Read some reviews and the history of this so called audio enhancer. I have my doubts, and lots of it. And still do, but everytime I think my system is better without it, I just turn it off and I change my mind. It is a good audio upgrade to have if you are looking for one, especially if you have a low to mid-end system like I do. I only give it a 3 star for value because I am cheap, I always think the price should be lower than it is. And 4 star for overall rating because I think nothing is worth the full 5 stars.

The new TDS AT ($200) is similar to the older version and Nureality Vivid 3D. The difference is that it does not use a separate power source. You simply hook up the ins and outs to operate it. To make things brief, unit extends the soundstage at the expense of fuller bodied presentation. The effect is much better than any other 3D "simulator" I've ever tried but those looking for extreme details may not like it. This is a good upgrade in a HT system but I'm assuming most audiophiles would want to use the Audiophile version ($400).

To all music and home theater followers the TDS Analog Audio Processor is a must have in any home / car audio system. The reason is that their products retrieve more information that's lost or hidden during the process of playback and recording. That means you'll hear a more realistic soundstage and endure sounds that you never knew existed in your favorite recordings of music or movie soundtracks. You can get more insight of this astonishing product at www.tdsaudio.com . Also their products are affordable to all listeners at all levels, so don't miss out on what you haven't heard.

I have had the TDS AT (standard, not audiophile version) in my system for about two months and have concluded that its effect is a mixed blessing. On the positive side, it really does add a more-than-subtle "dimension" to the sound. Turn the on/off switch to the "off" position and the sound becomes noticeably less realistic - like you're listening to speakers placed against a flat wall instead of a live session. This difference is significant; there won't be any question in your mind about whether you can hear it. On the negative side, the TDS achieves this effect by slightly boosting some frequencies, especially in the mid-bass range. A pleasant effect, but not necessarily what you are looking for in a good system. Also, the TDS is very sensitive to any source of hum. If your experience is similar to mine, you will definitely want to use two-meter or longer interconnects and to place the unit as far as possible from any hum sources such as your amplifier's transformer, TV sets, etc. In my system I found it especially sensitive to the hum created by my Z-man tube buffer. In spite of this mixed reaction, I choose to keep the TDS in the system; every time I turn it off, within a few minutes I turn it back on again. System: Marantz CD67SE, Z-man tube buffer, Acurus LS11 and A150, Vandersteen 2Ce+, MIT cables.

Strength:

Really enhances the sound of your system making it both more pleasant and more informatine and real at the same time

Weakness:

Sensitive electronics inside; can pick up hum quite easily if you have placed it too close to your other gear

After reading a lot of good things about TDS and what their little devices can do to your system, I decided to give it a try and bought a TDS Passive Audiophile Sound Enhancer at the Audio Advisor company.
It took awhile before I finally received it but once installed in my system, I soon discovered all the waiting has been worth it.
With the TDS installed and active the soundstage becomes bigger, deeper and wider whereas the sound itself becomes a bit warmer and simply more pleasant to listen to. It gives you that 'Oh yeah!'-feeling everytime you stop to listen to your hifi system.

At first I thought the TDS worked on the same way that the old loudness button did by making the sound more pleasant by giving the mid low frequencies a boost. But after some extended listening sessions I think the TDS does far more than that: the whole frequency spectrum from deep low to the highest notes are in a way enhanced in a positive way.

I have little clue as to how the TDS device actually works but my ears tell me that it does work and that it is worth every cent I paid for it. I wouldn't buy it I think if I owned an entire Mark Levinson or Krell system but for all of us who don't own systems that expensive, I think the TDS is a welcome addition.

One word of warning though: make sure your TDS unit is placed at a decent distance from your other gear because otherwise it is possible that it will pick up some noise and hum which will be clearly audible.
But if you take that into account, the TDS could be just what you need in order to take your system one step up to musical ecstacy.
