Strength:

Sensitivity and selectivity good.

Weakness:

Poor quality, bad LCD display, wayyy overpriced.

This product claims to be the world's best AM radio. Not a chance. Sensitivity and selectivity are pretty good, but the quality is poor. LCD display not working after about a year, knobs falling off, speaker doesn't work anymore (I have to use headphones), power switch on top doesn't work. I have never seen even much cheaper portables fall apart like this.

I will never buy another...

Strength:

Digital tuning, ergonomic shape and heft, battery life almost too long to believe, big LCD display with LED backlighting, rotary tuning knob, excellent AM reception.

Weakness:

Mine hums a bit with AC cord, so I stick to batteries, which means the backlighting times out after a little while. Some of the knobs on the front are a little oddly placed. FM sound only OK, but that's why you should buy this. External antenna hookup not really useful.

Practical, solid design of a type that has filled a real gap in the market for broadcast AM listeners.

Strength:

None - unless you have money to waste

Weakness:

Poor Reception - Breaks after 6 months

This radio is a piece of garbage - It's reception is worse than a radio I bought at a thrift store from the 1970's! Total 6 months!

I bought this Radio to use in a RV while traveling. I could not find where it was even as powerful as the RV Radio and was very disappointed in using it. After a year the digital numbers on the front started disappearing and now we cannot even read those. Totally useless for me.

Strength:

It has all the ports and bells(features) that one would want to use for attachments, extra speakers, blah blah blah.

Weakness:

I bought it because it was advertised as the "World's best AM reception". It's selectivity and sensitivity was no better than my $60 GE Super Radio on AM."Fading" was only slightly better. It's way over priced, and over hyped.

Yesterday(5/15/03)I recieved the CC radio from the C Crane co. I rec. it at work, where I have a very cheap, mostly broken, very old radio. There are a lot of electonics and flourescent lights, and AM reception there suck. I do get some of the major NY stations(5mi away). I plugged in the CC radio. It(AM reception) was no better on AM than the cheap, old, broken, dirty, ready for the garbage radio that I keep at work.

Strength:

fine tuning

Weakness:

poor sensitivity awful selectivity alarm sets itself

I am very disappointed with the AM performance of this radio. I have a 25 year old clock radio that I recieved as a safety award from my company that is much superior. The CCRadio selectivity is terrible. I have a little cheap GE radio that I paid $20-$30 for that will put it to shame. The CCRadio receives a lot of noise but very few stations and none of them clearly. It will not even receive large clear channel stations like KOA Denver clearly. I would not recommend it to anyone. Go to Walmart and buy a $20 radio and enjoy much better reception. It also has a problem with the alarm setting itself randomly. I have found no explaination for this. I did call them a few months after I bought it and they advised me to return it but I had lost the bill of sale so could not return it. I should have tried anyway, my mistake.

Strength:

Good AM reception and great features. Easy to use. My favorite MW am radio.

Weakness:

Weather alert feature not reliable. Radio is pricey.

My experience with the weather alert feature is unreliable. Tuned to a local weather station, then taken to search mode and thru the menu the radio sometimes will not tune back to the weather freq. I have to use tuner knob back and forth to regain weather freq. This problem can slip by you if you do not actually run thru the menu and search feature and then go back to the selected weather freq. This may take a time or two. The problem is there, at least on three of the radios I tried including the plus model. Check it out.

Strength:

The many features that make the radio easy to use and versatile.

Weakness:

Audio is hard to listen to over extended time. Too harsh, too muffled.

This review will be short.I really like the features of this 2002 CC Crane plus radio. I absolutely have to fault it on its audio quality--so much so that I am going to return the radio and find one that has better sound quality. Too bad, otherwise a great radio.

Strength:

Responsiveness of co-owner (Sue Crane), sturdy build of unit and better than average reception

Weakness:

Tone down advertising claims a bit.

I was a bit disappointed in the AM reception given the rather extraordinary claims. I also bought the Select-A-Tenna which improves reception moderately. Reception of Philadelphia and NYC stations from Syracuse (300 miles) is difficult during the day, and possible with some fade at night. The Select-A-Tenna improves fade and I would recommend buying it with the radio, although this increases the price by $60. The FM reception is quite good. One very positive aspect of dealing with Crane Co., is Sue Crane. She is very responsive and professional and will go out of her way to make the customer happy.
