Strength:

5-channel 550W powerful surround sound (110W x 5 Max).

Decent price point for an entry leve budget and set-upl.

Good enough if you're not that power hungry.

Weakness:

Would lack power if you ask for more.

only utilizes a 5.1 set-up.

As for starter's in this hobby, I find the the 357 good enough for a 5.1 entry level set-up satisfying enough for a small to medium room.

I use this AVR mostly for HT and with its 5-channel 550W (110W x 5 Max) and with proper speaker placement, it would already give out a decent entry level HT set-up.

Strength:

Good looks, lots of options

Weakness:

Very confusing to navigate the menus on the amplifier, CANNOT handle larger speakers, i am talking old school style big ones, it will cut out as soon as i hit 2/3rd of the capable power

It has many great features, and lots of cool stuff, so all around it is a half decent amplifier, lots of ins and outs on the back, has all the newer options like DTS, etc.
