Strength:

Good channel output (100W) Nice Remote. Good features and power for the price!

Weakness:

None that I have a problem with

I recently received this receiver for x-mas. I loved it, all the features you get is great for the price tag. It has a strong channel ouput, and surround mode also. The remote is a good quality product. The Dolby Virtual feature is very cool, and works well with my speakers. I am pleased with the product so far, and would recommend it to someone starting to build a stereo system. Pioneer is name brand equipment and this product is an example of their great product line!

Strength:

DSP Sound Fields, Features

Weakness:

Not Precise Volume Control, Scratchy Volume, Receiver clips at low volumes

I had this receiver for about 2 months, i found the volume to be scratchy when turning it up or down, when i would turn the volume about half way up, the receiver would make a funny noise and make the lights dim and brighten in my room when there would be a heavy bass sound. I brought it back and thought that it was just that receiver, but the floor model in the store did the same thing, if you are not going to play this at loud volumes this receiver is good for you, the features were nice and the DSP sound fields worked great, so i went and bought a sony receiver which sounds great. If youre particular about how your audio sounds I would not get this receiver.

Strength:

Powerful and quite good sounding for a low end AVR

Weakness:

None for my use

I have the Pioneer VXS-D308 hooked up to my pc for listening to mp3's and gaming with a pair of JBL 800's.
For the price, this is the perfect receiver and you can't go wrong. It's powerful and serves well to drive a small pc audio system.

I currently use the Pioneer VSX-D308 Dolby Pro Logic Reciever. It suits my perfectly. If you're looking for an inexpensive (yet powerful!) home theater or stereo solution, you've got it right here with the VSX-D308. Driving 100 watts to each of your three front speakers plus 50 watts per surround speaker (in Pro Logic mode), or 100 watts x 2 (in stereo mode), Pioneer's VSX-D308 delivers the clean power you need for quality home theater and music listening. In addition to Dolby Surround Pro Logic decoding (the circuitry that lets you tap into the realism and excitement of multichannel movie soundtracks and stereo TV broadcasts), it offers Digital Signal Processing with five soundfields for stunning wraparound effects. Three audio and two A/V inputs, plus a preamp-level subwoofer output, gives you room to expand your system. I just sit back, relax, and control it with the wireless remote.
Features:
- 5 DSP Soundfields (Hall, Jazz, Dance, Theater 1 & 2)
- 3 audio, 2 A/V inputs
- 1 set main speaker output
- subwoofer output
- headphone jack
- A/V remote
- 100 x 2 (stereo) into 8 ohms (40-20,000 Hz) at 0.09% THD
- or...100 x 3 in Pro Logic mode - plus 50 watts per surround speaker
- 30 AM/FM presets
- FM sensitivity 13.2 dBf
- 16-9/16" W x 5-11/16" H x 14" D
- warranty: 1 year (parts & labor)

List Price: $245 (Most places sell it between $169.94 and $179.99)

i have the D307 which is basically the same thing(i dont see a difference). It performs very well for what it is supposed to do. I was dumb enough to buy it from future shop and for $199, but it is still a nice reciever.

Strength:

Price

Weakness:

Overloads too fast -- Sub pre out not working properly

I bought the 307 (same receiver as the 308).
Very disapointed with this product when compared to the JVC receiver. If you can get it for less than $100 than it might be worth the effort otherwise look elsewhere.

Strength:

Great sound.

Weakness:

Reliability. Rear channel power. Volume control.

I found this to be a good all around receiver, but it has a few faults. On my unit, I have to turn the surround channel volume up as high as it goes to be able to hear anything. Also, the volume control is not very precise when using the remote, and is occasionally scratchy.

Now for reliability. For the first 12 months of use, the receiver performed flawlessly. Then everything went downhill. Three weeks after the waranty expired, the rear channel simply stopped working. After some playing around, I finally did get it working again. Then 2 months later, the tuner stopped working completely. Based on some of the other reviews that I have read here, I'm begining to think there's some serious quality control problems at Pioneer.

I still think that this is a good receiver, and a bargain if you can get one cheap that works properly. However, I can only give it 2 stars overall due to the problems listed above.

Strength:

Great sound at low and high volumes. I love it.

Weakness:

The remote is a little difficult.

Great reciever for beginners, and not bad for intermediate. I use it as a backup for my Pioneer Elite. I have used it for some time and it works to my satisfaction. And at $130 a reciever you can't pass up.

Strength:

Plenty of Power,Nice design, cost

This is a fairly nice unit for the money, however I feel the sound is a bit harsh, and hard to set to my liking. Had to add an EQ to really enjoy the unit enough to want to spend time with. Plenty of power and the surround sounds is a bit stronger than my older Technics SAGX290, but just doesnt sound quite as sweet as a lot of other receivers I've heard lately.
