Strength:

The price was very reasonable considering the sound quality and power available. Easy to use remote that accesses all functions. Dvd 5.1 is nice to have. Sound control is in digital display.

Weakness:

Remote does not light up.

This new unit is far better then the Technics unit it replaced. Great sound for the money. I like the surround sound and the DVD 5.1 capability. You are limited to base and treble tuning which might not meet your needs if your a real technophile. Plenty of power for most needs, but use a quality speaker wire.

Strength:

Price, Digital volume display

Weakness:

Bass/Treble Controls (digital controls have only 7 settings each)

Not a bad value overall, but the 300W power rating (as with all amps in this price range) is a bit fluffy. Check the transformer and you''ll find it''s rated at 180W output, divide that by the five channels and you get about 35W of continuous power through all channels. That''s still enough for movies in a smaller room, but you''ll also need a Dolby Digital decoder on any digital devices you plug into it because there''s no decoder on the receiver.

Strength:

Great Sound Quality, Pro Logic, lots of Inputs PRICE PRICE PRICE!

Weakness:

Poor Pioneer Remote.

This is a great reciever I love it! It has pleanty of inputs, lots of power, and Sound Great. I love being able to hook it up to my other pioneer components with the control cable. 60 Watts per channel is more than enough If you would like to keep your hearing. I like being able to control each speaker level with the remote control. I like everything about this receiver. The main volume knob on the front is very nice, you cant brush up against it and put it up full like some RCA garbage. If you like Quality and affordability this is your receiver. Email me if you have any questions.

Strength:

Price, many features, integrated AM/FM tuner, can do lot of things with the remote control

Weakness:

No digital input for DVD, but if you want it, you should pay more.

I bought this receiver because I just needed something to plug the sounds from my video and my CD player in. I found this one (VSX-D209) at FutureShop for a cheap price. It got many features, a lot of inputs, but no digital input though. The sound quality is without faults. I am happy with it, considering the price I paid. Also, I found the remote control fairly convenient.

Strength:

THE SOUND OUTPUT OF THIS AMPLIFIER IS OF HIGH QUALITY, I'VE ONLY HAD IT NOW FOR A FEW WEEKS BUT SO FAR IT HAS MET ITS VALUE. THE DIMMER IS VERY USEFUL WHEN YOU WANT ALL ATENTION TOWARDS A MOVIE SUCH AS THE ONLY SOURCE OF LIGHT IN THE ROOM WOULD BE THE TV.

Weakness:

POWER WOULD BE AN ISSUE FOR MOST, IN MY CASE MY SPEAKERS ARE mdS, MADE TO USE SMALL AMOUNTS OF POWER TO ACHIEVE THE SAME VOLUME AS A REGULAR SPEAKER. MY SPEAKERS ARE MADE TO MAKE 60WATTS SEEM LIKE 120WATTS. BASS SEEMS TO BE ON THE SHORT END OF THE AMP, FULL BASS JUST IS'NT ENOUGH FOR MY MUSIC. ONE PROBLEM YOU MAY FIND IS THAT MOST DVD PLAYERS HAVE OPTICAL DIGITAL OUTPUTS THIS AMPLIFIER DOES NOT HAVE THE INPUTS FOR THAT TYPE OF OUTPUT, YOU'LL HAVE TO GO WITH THE COAXIAL DIGITAL INPUTS

IF YOUR LOOKING FOR AN AFFORDABLE SOUNDING AMPLIFIER, YOU'VE FOUND IT. THIS AMP HAS THE SOUND QUALITY OF AROUND A 1000$CAN. AMP. I PAID $210.00CAN FOR MY AMPLIFIER.

Strength:

Hell, it's got 300 watts total. Think about it.

Weakness:

It's hard to get strong bass out of it. I had to run input through another reciever just to get strong bass.

Overall, it's an okay reciever, if I'd had to actually pay the full price I wouldn't have bought it. Good if you just want it for surround sound, but if you like rap, forget about it. Find something with a better equalizer. As for power, 60 watts per channel is good unless you're trying to use kickers with 4 ohms resistance.....but I'm using regular house boxes, they sound fine. Sound is extremely clear with this one, I was surprised.

Strength:

For the reliability and the low cost of the unit you get a lot of watts and options.

Weakness:

It wasn't as strong on the bass side but if you turn up the sub woofer all the way in the receiver, you can then adjust the sub woofer and get what you are looking for. That of course is within reason.

Personally,I think if you are looking for a solid low cost unit with outstanding clarity and all of the function buttons for normal use, this is the one.It even lets you hook up your DVD to 5.1 if you want, but if you are looking for a unit with the optical outlet you will have to upgrade.Don't expect it to do more than Pioneer says it will do and I think you will be pleasantly suprised, especially if you are upgrading from a less powerful unit or one of those older, junky surround sound units! If you want it to perform like a $2,500 unit then buy a $2,500 unit, but if you want it to perform like a $260 unit that you paid far less for, than thats what you will get.

Strength:

Bang for the Buck

Weakness:

Weak equilizer controls. Just Bass and Treble.

This receiver is an excellent value. I was just looking for a decent upgrade from an old surround sound model and I found one. This item can process Pro-Logic and Digital 5.1. It lets you set volume for each of the 5 speakers and also has distance settings from each speaker to the main seating area. Overall, this unit performs as well as others costing $100 more.
