Strength:

AC3 RF input (for LaserDisc) Limited but usable built-in EQ:s for different channels Very configurable with on-screen menus Bang for the buck in used market

Weakness:

No DTS decoder Abysmal power amplifiers - 2.5ohm load and they shut off Non-backlit remote

Back in '97 it was one of the best amps in its price class, no question about it, as long as home theater is concerned. The sound is quite dry and far from musical but reasonably analytic, digital effects are there and in traditional Yamaha fashion, some of them are surprisingly usable.

Similar Products Used:

Sony TAE-1000ESd, H/K 8550, various Meridian / Teac / Yamaha A/V receivers, amps and preamps.
