Review 1 of 18

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Second Hand

Summary:
I bought this as part of a system for the amps. I kept in in the basement for 3 months and finally hooked it up.

Compared to my Sony 70ES, it is noticably more natural and detailed. I will not speak to reliability but just hope the reliability issue doesn't hit me. Otherwise, it is a very warm (like ROTEL) but dynamic (like NAD) piece of equipment.

Strengths:
Natural sound , variable and fixed hook ups permit processing to two separate systems. Low price on used market.

Weaknesses:
No disc ex-change like Sony line. Other people speak to reliability - try it out before buying. No one will spend to fix it so if its working now it was probably working all along and will contine to work.

Similar Products Used:
Sony ES

Review 2 of 18

Summary:
Follow-up to original review. During the 18 months I have owned this unit, it has been in the shop twice for over 4 months. It is now broken again with the same problem that it had the last two times (transport controls). It's unfortunate that these units are so unreliable - When they work they sound very good. I doubt that I'll ever purchase any Adcom products in the future based upon this experience.

Strengths:
Great Sound when it works

Weaknesses:
Doesn't work very well

Similar Products Used:
HK, Marantz, Denon

Review 3 of 18

Price Paid:  $539.00 from Home Entertainment

Summary:
I have owned this CD changer since 1993 and it has been great. I don't use it every day anymore (mostly because of the digital music channels on DirecTV), but I have never had a problem with it in the 8+ years I've owned it. I find the sound to be excellent. FYI, I have it paired with virtually all Adcom equipment: GTP-550 tuner, GFA-555 II amp, GFA 5503 amp, Klipsch Chorus II and Klipsh KG 4.5 speakers.

Strengths:
Sounds Great! Very reliable.

Weaknesses:
Tray is a bit noisy when it opens, but doesn't bother me.

- produce in 1995 and still great
- dual transformer

Weaknesses:

Review 5 of 18

Price Paid:  $600.00 from Tweeter Etc., Waterford, CT

Summary:
I bought this one for the sound...I'd listened to a bunch of CD players (from Sony, Yamaha, NAD and Denon) before I bought this one, and while it was a little more money, it blew them away. Clean, uncolored sound, excellent channel separation, very good audio detail. That's the good news. The bad news: it's in the shop - again! It died on me for the first time about a month after I bought it - the read head had to be realigned. Then the tray developed a nasty rattle and stopped working altogether a couple years back. Now the tray has stopped working again - and while I can't buy another CD changer that sounds this good for $150 (the estimated repair price), I'm quickly reaching the point where I'll have spent enough on repairs to justify a new one.

Strengths:
Great sound, clean design, polarity switch

Weaknesses:
reliability, lack of power switch on remote

Similar Products Used:
Sony, Fisher, Yamaha
