Well it may be six years later but as I posted under my prior id davidwilliam, I would be back!!!!!!

Still got 2 of these babies, and it is sad to hear the great AR is out of business. I even took these two centre channels and hooked them up under left and right normal sterio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God these speakers rock!!!

I recently bought a pair of klipsch referecence RF 5. When i originally bought the AR2C it was a comparison between the AR and Klipsch center. The AR seemed much better value, and even with two pairs of RF 5 mains, i must still agree the AR is one great speaker.

I love my new klipsh, but its very sad to see AR go. I guess they never charged enough money for the speakers they sold. With my high quality high output amps, i never came close to blowing the tweeters in the AR tweeters, even at 160.00 watts per channel, and using them as left and right mains!!!!.

I guess the ARs must not be well suited for those with cheaper amplification and downstream components, so apparently many blew there tweeters.

Strength:

Rich bass, crisp highs and midrange perform well.

Weakness:

Tweeter is easily blown. AR recently went bankrupt, but they are still honoring their 5 year warranties. Unfortunately, you have to personally remove the damaged part and ship it to AR.

This is a great center channel. Crisp tweeter and two good performing midranges. The AR2C compliments the other AR high-res speakers very well. I use the AR5's for front's, AR9's for rears and AR4C for center rear. The one concern is that the tweeter is easily blown, so be careful when you calibrate your receiver. Overall, a great performing speaker, good rich bass and crisp highs.

Strength:

Super design, good build construction and components, great full sound without the base muddying the sound from the mid-ranges. Great price! Retails for $499.

Weakness:

None. Some have said thisis too big, but I find it perfectly sized for a center that provides 60%+ of the overall sound from a surround system.

A very full sounding center channel speaker with innovative design features. Utilyses a downfiring slotted 6-1/2" woofer, 2 5 1/4" mid-ranges and a 1" titanium dome tweeter. Can hear excellent base and much clearer voices with this setup. Separating the base from the midrange really opens up the sound. Other manufactures feature two base drivers and one midrange in theri 3-way setups which misses the main function of a center channel speaker, which is to clearly hear voices.

Strength:

Size is excellent, 12 inch deep, is really no big deal, makes it excellent for ceiling hanging installation.

Weakness:

I honestly do not think it has any, but I will post if i find any.

I purchased two of these and can't wait to hear the hi-res comeback by AR. With two over 5 mids, tweeter, and a base driver Loaded the way this one is, one can argue its like a sub. I noticed its size and consider this a plus, vs the other centres that look like plastic toys, ready to fly to mars. Obviously a very attractive unit, and made to last.

Strength:

Clear sound, much bass, mid and high switches allow you to tailor the sound to match other speakers.

Weakness:

Huge and heavy, about 35#. Had to build a support so it wouldn't slip off of the top of the TV, 36" direct view.

Sounds great! Nice bass, made SACD multichannel recordings come alive. Now I want new surrounds.

This replaces an AR 252C, but it's heads above that in sound, size (and price).

Strength:

Good sound in all spectrums Solid workmanship Adjustment for tweeter and mid volume

Weakness:

Size is big...it isn''t a Bose and that''s a good for sound...need at least 40" of screen under for asthetics to work

Bottom line: Really good sound would reccomend to a friend Used w/ 4 AR-15 and a sub, great for music on movies clear dialog. I''m really a music guy who still wants solid HT and the AR-2Cs size and configuration really have a commanding sound in 5 channel sound.

Strength:

Could be the best Center Speaker under 1k

Weakness:

None, Looks Great

This Speaker brought new heights to my Home Theater set-up. The built in 6" down-firing woofer is the success of this speaker. The unit is quite heavy (38lbs), but it is crammed with all the goodies one would expect of a speaker of this magnitude. One listen is all it takes, it keeps you right in the action, never missing a beat. I'am using Kimber Kable 8tc and the sound is just wonderfull, switched from the M-series Monster (to bright).

Home theater Set-up:
Nakamichi 1a1z intergrated Amp
Sony dvd 7700
Kimber AGDL Silver digital Coax ($150.00 .5M)
AR's in front
Polk F/X 500's in rear
Velodyne Sub
MIT Terminator 2 speaker cable through out.

Strength:

Heavy -it stands still. Switch for High- and Middle- pass

Weakness:

Heavy -you should use a stand for this baby. Weight: aprox. 30Kg

The AR2C is excellent value for money. Especially when you look at the rear of it. It's got 2 switches there : MF and HF. You can reduce the high and middle frequensies with -1.5db or just leave it at 0 (flat) . The HF-switch is excellent for all of us who doen't have a THX-certified pre-amp when watching THX-remastered movies.
The AR2C includes the same 5 1/4" mids and 1"Titanium tweeter as the wonderfull AR1. In addition it also has a downfiring 6,5" subwoofer , this is excellent for the center-punch. AR2C together with AR1;now you can finally experience the punch and rumbling in your own home like in the cinemas, just check out the helicopter-explosion in The Matrix on dvd.

This center-speaker is prised way too low, once again; excellent value for money. You can't go wrong here.

My systen consists of:

Yamaha DSP-A2
Yamaha CDX-493
Sharp DV560
AR1 front
AR2C
AR15 rear
