I just wanted to say that having used these on and off along with a pair of Mission 701's, I find that drums in particular have a pleasing clarity with these speakers in my set up(with cable talk 3.1 cable/denon PMA-250se amp/sony CDP-XE330).

Strength:

They are better than wharfedale.

Weakness:

Too many to list

These speakers are deeply unimpressive. They lack any dynamic expression or transparancy. Their bass is just one low droney note and thier treble makes you think that you are wearing ear muffs. In their defence they never offend with harsh treble.

Strength:

An enhanced version of M2. Astounding imaging.

Weakness:

Bi-wiring options may affirm this classic. Then again bi-wiring was never part of the Mercury bookshelfs.

After 5 mths with the Tannoy M1s, I was tempted to improve the bass responses in my bedroom unit without losing the excellent imaging. The immediate choice to fit the bill was to move on to the M2. The M2.5 came as a bonus without flaws, well a mere A$50 extra over the M2. Everything in terms of sonic representations and build quality are cautiously carried out in the mercury tradition ... only better. The M2.5 improvements hides behind its confines. Namely an extra magnet behind the LF driver, extra bracing, longer port tube, and the brass bind post which otherwise could have been easily mistaken as gold plated. Enough said.
The M2.5 are best to be heard by ears. From fast numbers from TonyDeVitt or slow mellows from Antonio Carlos Jobim.
The imaging sounds larger than life in any flavours.
Tannoy M2.5 poses to question the logic of fancy looking speakers, costing twice as much and sounding far from half as good. The M2.5 is a true utilitarian device to the world of soundscapes.

Strength:

Imaging, good representation of instrumental tone, voices.

Weakness:

Relatively narrow soundstage.

This pair of speakers were bought for £129 which I consider to have been a bargain. They represent a very good compromise, being able to present something of the scale of a full symphony orchestra, but equally capable of presenting individual instruments e.g. violin, cello with believable tone. They represent voices very well indeed and are as capable with pop music as they are with jazz. They can provide a very involving listening experience when coupled with a lively amplifier e.g. Pioneer A300R Precision. They are able to give a very good representation of the ambience of the recording area. In comparison with the R1, their presentation of the scale of a symphony orchestra is far more impressive, the same is true in comparison with the Castle Isis speakers. The latter are superior to the M2.5 speakers in some respects, but overall do not provide such a satisfying listening experience as the M2.5 speakers. Incidentally, the M2.5 is of a higher quality than the M2 with a far better controlled bass & a sweeter treble.

Strength:

Higher End Detailed but not overly Bright
Mids Beautiful
Low end bass Very tight and quick

Weakness:

Not Meant for driving beyond half its deliverable capacity - sound disintegrates slightly

For the price - astounding speakers - very transparent - and warm (not to be confused for lack of detail) and yes they posses that very elusive quality - they are amazingly musical. This quality was sadly missing for the other products mentioned.(The 6 series of B&W are terrible - very bose like)

Everything from Michael Jackson's Thriller to Coltranes wailing saxophone sounded musically beautiful.

The Box of course could have been heavier - but tough bracings seem to prevent too much resonance. They need good stands to usefully use the extremely full low range.Bass is tight and quick.

These are speakers that would spoil you and make an upgrade later very very expensive.

Tannoys have hit it right with this one - a speaker for the heart.

More valus for money than anything in the market.
Overall Rating 4 as I am not sure of their durability - (paper cones)

Strength:

SOUNDSTAGE,Finesse,Smoothness, vocals, Overall quality.

Weakness:

Low-key, a lack extreme bass and treble,bass-middle and middle high prominent

Tannoy is very famous, It's good like a Scotish'wisky.
Provided that the best site on net: WWW.TANNOY.COM, it's also one of the older speaker in the world.Isn't it ?

The cabinet is simple, it look like 'robust'.
In my mind, the sound isn't forward but invade all around of us with a surprising SOUNDSTAGE, an finesse elegant, and it 's very balanced in a expansive musicality.Bass are amazing for the price, and never i have heard a such vocals in the small speakers.

The main thing is that this sound tight, well controled, meanwhile music explode in the room with conviction. It represent the relief, and the measure of recording, that i could near touch it."It" represent the string of instruments. A great value.

Strength:

Super bass, well-balanced midrange. Cheap.

Weakness:

distortion of extreme high frequency sound.

m2.5 is very good for a/v speaker.

Well balanced midrange sounds gave great satisfaction, and bass beyond it's size surprised me.

If you are a first-step a/v user, I recommend this speaker.

its a superb buy, sweet midrange resulting in good and seductive vocals. Bass is tight yet detailed. And the treble can soar, really soar.Compared this to my previous mission733 floor standers, it obviously trash it.
Small and compact.
