Price Paid: $160.00 from mail order Summary I am very disappointed with the AM performance of this radio. I have a 25 year old clock radio that I recieved as a safety award from my company that is much superior. The CCRadio selectivity is terrible. I have a little cheap GE radio that I paid $20-$30 for that will put it to shame. The CCRadio receives a lot of noise but very few stations and none of them clearly. It will not even receive large clear channel stations like KOA Denver clearly. I would not recommend it to anyone. Go to Walmart and buy a $20 radio and enjoy much better reception. It also has a problem with the alarm setting itself randomly. I have found no explaination for this. I did call them a few months after I bought it and they advised me to return it but I had lost the bill of sale so could not return it. I should have tried anyway, my mistake.Strength fine tuningWeakness poor sensitivity awful selectivity alarm sets itselfWould you like to Comment? Price Paid: $159.00 from ccrane Summary My experience with the weather alert feature is unreliable. Tuned to a local weather station, then taken to search mode and thru the menu the radio sometimes will not tune back to the weather freq. I have to use tuner knob back and forth to regain weather freq. This problem can slip by you if you do not actually run thru the menu and search feature and then go back to the selected weather freq. This may take a time or two. The problem is there, at least on three of the radios I tried including the plus model. Check it out.Strength Good AM reception and great features. Easy to use. My favorite MW am radio.Weakness Weather alert feature not reliable. Radio is pricey.Would you like to Comment? Join audioReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Price Paid: $129.00 from CC Crane Summary This review will be short.I really like the features of this 2002 CC Crane plus radio. I absolutely have to fault it on its audio quality--so much so that I am going to return the radio and find one that has better sound quality. Too bad, otherwise a great radio.Strength The many features that make the radio easy to use and versatile.Weakness Audio is hard to listen to over extended time. Too harsh, too muffled.Would you like to Comment? Join audioReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Price Paid: $160.00 from C Crane Summary I was a bit disappointed in the AM reception given the rather extraordinary claims. I also bought the Select-A-Tenna which improves reception moderately. Reception of Philadelphia and NYC stations from Syracuse (300 miles) is difficult during the day, and possible with some fade at night. The Select-A-Tenna improves fade and I would recommend buying it with the radio, although this increases the price by $60. The FM reception is quite good. One very positive aspect of dealing with Crane Co., is Sue Crane. She is very responsive and professional and will go out of her way to make the customer happy.Strength Responsiveness of co-owner (Sue Crane), sturdy build of unit and better than average receptionWeakness Tone down advertising claims a bit.Would you like to Comment? Price Paid: $130.00 from on line at C. Crane Summary I live in NW Montana, where the nearest AM and FM stations are 40 miles distant. My power supply is a photovoltaic array with battery storage.I have been satisfied with my Optimus 12-603A radio with an external FM antenna, but the analog tuning is a pain. I had hoped the ccradio-plus would solve that, and ordered one from their "orphan" bin. Digital tuning is great, but there are shortcomings: (1)AM reception is no better than Optimus. (2)FM reception much poorer. There is no external FM antenna connection. (3)There is no reception on either TV or Weather bands. (4)When using 120v AC, my modified sine-wave inverter produced an audible distracting hum on the radio. (5)The quality of the sound is less rich than the Optimus. I have also tried a Bose Wave machine with similar disappointment. Overall the CCRadio is a quality product that has all the bells and whistles, but is deficient in FM sensitivity and sound quality. Too pricey, unless you are a Yuppie in a metropolitan area with nearby stations.Strength Digital tuning, night lighted clock & dial, and quality construction. AM reception is good.Weakness As outlined aboveWould you like to Comment? Join audioReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member.
