I've had the Sansui SP-X9000 speakers for a week now. I tested them against Bose 901 series 1's. Needless to say, someone else now owns the Bose. Sure, the Boae have virtually no limit on wattage, but, in a true Hi Fi 2 way system, the clarity and musical range belongs to the Sansui's. Connected to my Yamaha 30 Watt mini component receiver they sound great. This weekend I'll hook them up to my Carver 6250and let them battle it out with my Polk RTA11-TL's.
For what I paid for them. They're awesome.

More to come.

I have a pair of Sansui SP-X9000 and have heard alot of clean/clear speakers, but not ones that didn't sound like they were in a strain just to play beautiful mids & highs. I purchased these beast because I wanted the same type of bass you'd hear at a concert, that of a cannon. They were designed for music for those who like that grit natural sound, but if you want a bass punch that makes you grab your chest like someone has blasted a pump shotgun, they are awesome...

Insane!
I was lucky enough to pick up a pair from their original owner and in like-new cosmetic condition.
Imagine an Onkyo TX-4500 receiver connected to these beasts..
This is what I've experienced **outdoors**:
When the volume is turned up to about 25%, the compression is so intense, you start to feel the rush of adrenaline almost immediately.
At half volume, you can't stand within 10 feet of them- you will definitely need a remote control.
75% is when you feel on top of the world - this is when the Sansui's start to strech and yawn, begging for more - you feel like you are driving a ferrari at 50 mph.
The other day when I invited my friends over, I played one of Diane Arkenstone's tracks and when the beat set in up my friend turned to me and told me that for a second there he thought someone had kicked him from behind.
I could host a party in my house with my puny 30*2 watt HK 330A yet belt out enough energy to jiggle someone's kidneys 25 feet away, why would I need a higher powered amp?
Loud bass performance does not mean diminished accuracy. These are one of the most accurate speakers I've ever heard in my life and yes, I've auditioned quite a few. They are close to flawless in the entire spectrum, a feat that's almost impossible to accomplish with massive woofers. The mids are warm and the quad horns sizzle and more than make their presence felt whilst not sounding harsh, unlike my Klipsch RF-7's

Bought these speakers in 1977-78.

Compared them to many others. If I were to have purchased another brand it would have been the Yamaha NS 1000’s but I am happy with the Sansui’s. Man they are loud without having to put much into them. They are solid, producing full sound, no distortion. Though they’re rated at 125 watts, 50 watts is all you need to get the most out of them. As a fact, in the house, 1 watt & they can be heard at a civilized level. If I need to, I can put 10 watts into it & people will start to get the idea that I better not turn them up any higher.

They have a selector switch on them but I don’t know how much of a difference it makes? I can hardly tell. They have great bass & treble. I have not seen a speaker that can compare to these Sansui SP-x 9000’s. They are a great speaker that is solid throughout the spectrum.

There are many speakers out on the market but I haven’t seen a speaker stick around for any length of time except the Bose 901’s. These ones still blow the Bose 901’s away though….

Fantastic speakers. Too bad they are so ugly! I am actually going to cover the grills with new acoustic fabric.

Strength:

Bass, Midrange, Super Tweeter etc.
3-way sound control
Cloth Surrounds

Weakness:

Wood Grille, Cost if purchasing on EBAY etc.
Hearing Loss (really)

Imagine a set of these hooked up to a Pioneer SX-3800, a BSR EQ 3000 and a vintage 1985 Magnavox CD player. Now put in your favorite Ozzy, Van Halen or Motley Crue tunes. Now run for the hills.

Next imagine all your neighbors moving away. Hearing loss is in my near future.

If you can locate one of the higher model Sansui Speakers, 7000, 8000, 9000 series, I would purchase. I know guys that spend $mucho$ for not. These will not dissapoint.

I have gone through tons of sound gear and these are best sounding, kick you in the teeth drivers I have ever come across.

Final note, don't hook these up to a small amp or receiver, you will not be able to push the energy needed to awaken these beasts.

Strength:

BASS, MIDRANGE, TWEETER
Cloth surrounds
Soft, Natural and Clear settings

Weakness:

Rarity of Item.
Cost if purchasing on EBAY, etc.
Fragile Grille (wood lattice)
Hearing Loss

Imagine a set of these hooked up to a Pioneer SX-3800 via a BSR EQ 3000 via a 1985 Magnavox CD player with your favorite OZZY CD with Randy playing. Hearing loss is in my near future. So are my neighbors. So are other people down the block. This is the world I'm living in currently.

If you love music at moderate levels and can stand the heat, I would try to get a set of these speakers if you can. Although rated at 220 watts, I would not try to engage these with a small amp or receiver. You will not draw out the Bass these can deliver. These things will kick you in the teeth (Motley).

I've had tons of equipment, speakers, etc. and nothing has ever sounded like this.
