If you already own the E500 or SE530, … — you’re not getting any improvement in sound quality with the SE535, and the main improvements center around robustness of the cable,

CNET Says:Â The Shure SE535 headphones offer exceptional clarity; deep, tight bass; rich, enveloping sound; and great noise isolation.

Their clarity and definition, coupled with great comfort, are unmatched by any pair of universal-fit in ear headphones.

I have found that the E2c’s are very good for concerts because they block out alot of noise and you can’t really see that I’m wearing them. Low end bass is very good, but it is a little boomy.

I also watch a part of Saving Private Ryan on my Zune. I was at the end about 30 seconds before the planes came in for an attack I could hear the low rumble! I was amazed!

Headphone Room Says: We just can’t get past the fact that the SE310 is pretty much the perfect balance of everything we’ve hoped for in a mid-priced ear canal headphone for the past 15 years. Believe us, your iPod is lonely for a pair of SE310s.

CNet Says: If you’re looking for a premium listening experience, check out the Shure SE310 Sound Isolating Earphones. They sound fantastic and will probably outlast your MP3 player.

Digital Trends Says: The Shure SE310s are the best single-driver canalphones we have auditioned to date. While they lack a unique signature and sound slightly flat, overall performance was excellent. The design showcases the maturity of Shure’s place in the market, and the new ear sleeves are the most comfortable we have used.

Sound Magic PL30Â are hard to beat, especially at this price point. In fact I think they sound better than a pair of Grado SR60s at less than half the price. Sure the stage isn’t huge, but balance, clarity and dynamics are very good. They come with a huge variety of fitting options and each ear has a bass adjustment knob. After a few hours of burn in the frequencies are very well balanced and clear. They isolate well. Very little cord feedback and frankly they just sound good.

Quarkie Launches Audio Art quirky headphones shaped like snake heads, rusty bolts and cats eyes

A new line of expressive and high-performance headphones hits the UK, Hong Kong and U.S markets

Quarkie looks, Serious Sounds – that is the message from Quarkie regarding their exciting new range of audio art.

The Quarkie headphone design is the result of a designer’s vivid dream about snake’s heads and cats eyes. The dream was then transformed into reality when a team of innovative and imaginative British and Asian-Pacific artists, music lovers and electronic engineers came together to produce the funky audio art range.

Unlike some headphone designs, the incredible sound has not been comprised in order to produce some awesome looking designs.  As music lovers, the group’s goal was to bring British studio monitor quality sound to an in-ear headphone range whilst keeping in line with their philosophy that high-performance technology products can be beautiful and individual as well as functional. The results speak for themselves.

Seven awe-inspiring designs have been launched in August.  Whether you are a music junkie, a fashionista or an animal lover, there is something to suit you.  The funky designs include: yellow viper snakeheads, green viper snakeheads, snake eyes, cat eyes, chameleon eyes, purple gemstones and rusty bolts.

Quarkie headphones achieve the incredible sound by using specially developed 13.5 mm drive units with aluminum voice coil and neodymium magnets. As a result, they have low distortion, wide-bandwidth and excellent transient response. They are also very sensitive allowing them to reach maximum performance potential with portable devices.

Each pair of headphones is packaged with four sets of high quality ear buds (XS, S, M and L), instructions on how to fit the buds in correctly for maximum noise isolation, a microphone / function controller compatible with iPhones and Android phones and a sharing splitter. The gold plated 3.5mm plug and cloth covered cables minimize tangling and micro phonics.

After you get your hands on these phenomenal designs, don’t worry, there is more to come. Quarkie are currently working on a second collection of supersonic audio art which will be available at the end of the year.

Quarkie’s Audio Art range has an RRP of £69/ $109 U.S and are available online direct atwww.quarkie.com.

About Quarkie

Quarkie was founded by music lovers, artists and electronic engineers with decades of experience in the audio industry, with the goal of creating headphone that combine expressive designs and exceptional performance.

The Quarkie world-view is that function is vital and that self-expression and individuality are essential.

RHA, the Glasgow based audio company, have launched their critically-acclaimed earphone, the MA-350, in the US. Designed and engineered in the UK, the MA-350s are machined from solid, aircraft grade aluminium, sandblasted and partially anodised in matte black.

The earphone’s ‘Aerophonic design’ transfers the sound organically from the 10mm driver to the ear canal. The result is a clear, rich tone through the audio spectrum with a deep, full bass response; quite an achievement in an earphone. The fabric braided cable produces less friction than a normal rubber cable meaning it very rarely tangles. The shape of the earbud and the selection of high quality silicone tips results in a snug, secure fit.

The MA-350 earphones are available on Amazon.com for $35.

www.rha-audio.com

For more information on the MA-350 visit here.

via: Isabel McNeil-Watson from RHA

AudioReview will have a full length review of the MA-350 in the next coming month.

The XBA-1iP and XBA-2iP earphones are the two base iDevice models from Sony’s newly developed Balanced Armature series.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiche1vRFiU

[From SonyAsianPacific's Youtube Channel]

The XBA-1iP and XBA-2iP earphones are the two base iDevice models from Sony’s newly developed Balanced Armature series. Given a chance to review any of the headphones in the range, we decided to find out exactly what the differences were between these two base models and report back to you.

Both earphones housings are colored chrome and black with a red ring around the right earpiece. The oval shaped and tangle-free cable feels thick and steady. It would probably take some real effort to damage the cable. The interior housing is made of a liquid crystal polymer that holds the Balanced Armature driver securely in place. I can attest to the strength of the design. These earphones have held up to my constant abuse. Over the several month review period, neither earphone has shown signs of wear, nor have any of the drivers loosened up and started to distort or rattled in the housing.

The XBA-1iP uses a single balanced armature driver, has a frequency response from 5 – 25,000Hz, has 108 dB/mW sensitivity, 24 Ohm impedance and is priced at $99.99. The XBA-2iP uses dual balanced armature drivers, has a 4 – 25,000Hz frequency response, again a 108 dB/mW sensitivity, and a 12 Ohm impedance, priced at $219.99. [If you don't know what a balanced armature driver is - see the video How Balanced Armature Driver Work from Earphone Solutions at the bottom of this review.]

The in-line mic is also robust. The same mic unit is used in both the XBA-1iP and XBA-2iP, and it has been through several rain storms and the same overall abuse as the earphone units themselves. Dropped, tossed on desktops, hours after hours in pockets, and nothing is worse for the wear.

The XBA-1iP and XBA-2iP have very similar voicing characteristics. Actually, these XBA earphones remind me of Sony’s SS-AR1 ($22,700) that I heard at the 2011 California Audio Show. Obviously there were some significant differences, but overall characteristics of sound were surprisingly similar. These characteristics are best described as; balanced, clear, detailed, and rich. The XBA-2iP, with an added balanced armature woofer, has significantly more bass than the single full range woofer of the XBA-1iP. But the XBA-1iP does have satisfactory bass strength and extension if one is in a quiet environment. While at my desk or library, I never had the feeling I was missing any of the low end. But while on the bus/BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit – our subway), the base of the XBA-1iP wasn’t enough against the low noise interference of the outside world. Since both earphones use the same full range driver for their mid and high frequencies, no matter which earphone we were using we are treated to the same smooth high end that is detailed but never fatiguing or over extended. The mid-range, while not as open as some other earphones we have heard, is detailed and perfect for studio-produced albums. Though classical and jazz fans might not find enough of the recording space is represented by either of these models. Overall though, no matter what we listened to, AC/DC streaming on the iPhone, or using the Trends Audio tube headphone amplifier and 24bit digital files of Mile Davis’s Kind of Blue, both the XBA earphones sounded good. Though, they showed their strengths most with modern recordings of pop, rock, hip hop and electronic music.

One interesting find was that we often had the iPhone or headphone amplifier turned up more than normal when using the XBA earphones. On the iPhone/iPad we normally found ourselves two or three clicks from the max volume. While with some other earphones we’d be four to five clicks. Though this volume seemed to be best suited for the XBA earphones. The XBA’s present lively music at a fun volume that wasn’t edgy or fatiguing. Another tip we found for getting better bass response from the single balanced armature driver of the XBA-1iP earphone was to wear a size down from what we used with the XBA-2iP and push the earphones slightly more into the ear canal. This wasn’t uncomfortable and it helped the bass tremendously.

The mic on the XBA earphones is also impressive. It did a great job of shielding wind noise and capturing my voice. Obviously, the louder I spoke the easer it was for the person on the other end to hear me. But compared to several other mic’s we have used of late, the mic on the XBA earphones did a great job of blocking background noise and picking up voice.

The mic also houses the iDevice controls. There is a pause, volume up, and volume down button. These are easy to use and if you hold down either the volume up or down, the tracks will skip forward or back.

If you have used Sony headphones before, then the XBA’s with Balanced Armature drivers will certainly continue to please you. The smooth sound, detail and non-fatiguing listening impresses. Though, if Sony were to take some suggestions for the next iteration of the Balanced Armature series, we’d like to suggest a bit more extension in the high end and a hair more openness with the mid-range.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uzFhlpKIvM

[From Earsolution's Youtube Channel - please note this is who balanced armature drivers generally work - Sony may have their own specific tweaks.]

Old Lyme, CT – April 17, 2012 – The IE 800 headphones from Sennheiser are the ones with the most innovations per square millimeter. And for precisely that reason, these small in-ear earphones can certainly compete with much larger high-end headphones. They are brimming with groundbreaking ideas to ensure that audiophile music lovers can get as close as possible to perfect sound even when they’re on the move.

When it comes to audio quality, ear-canal phones have been known to come up against their limits in the past. But the IE 800 sets new standards: with its new model, Sennheiser is now rounding off its top segment with a set of genuinely high-end portable headphones. “The sound of the IE 800 can easily compete with that of our high-end portfolio,” said Maurice Quarré, Director Product Lifecycle Management Sennheiser Consumer Electronics. These dynamic in-ear phones offer fascinatingly brilliant trebles, precise bass response and a detailed, lifelike sound image with a frequency response of 5 to 46,500 Hz.

The IE 800 not only boasts innovative technology but also features a modern design and high-quality materials such as the scratch-resistant ceramic housing. Its puristic design language and black/silver finish give it that certain extra. The high-end earphones were developed and designed at Sennheiser’s headquarters in Germany. And the new in-ear earphones will be produced here too.

Outstanding in-ear sound systemÂ
The interior of the IE 800 conceals many small but effective innovations: the centrepiece is Sennheiser’s specially developed Extra Wide Band (XWB) driver. With a diameter of just 7 mm, it is the smallest wide-band sound transducer currently available in dynamic headphones. Its functional principle guarantees distortion-free sound even at high sound pressure levels. “Until now, high-quality in-ear headphones have used so-called balanced-armature multi-drivers,” explained Senior Acoustic Engineer Axel Grell. “Reproducing the entire audio spectrum requires several narrow-band drivers to be operated in parallel. However, this results in very slight jumps and delays in music reproduction.” By contrast, the miniature-sized XWB driver developed by Sennheiser is able to perfectly reproduce the entire audible frequency spectrum and beyond. The advantage: music is played back with crystal clarity and with absolute time precision.

The endeavour to fully exploit the sound potential of the premium headphones led to a further small but highly effective innovation: a vented magnet system. The idea is actually quite simple and was used for the first time on the HD 700 high-end headphones. “The oscillating motion of the diaphragm produces an air flow in the magnet system housing that causes the diaphragm to wobble slightly,” explained Axel Grell. “By positioning two precisely defined vent holes in the housing directly under the magnets, we can cause the air to flow in a specific direction. This minimises the wobbling motion of the diaphragm and reduces total harmonic distortion to less than 0.06 percent.

Innovative dual-chamber absorber
With the IE 800, Sennheiser has succeeded for the first time in solving what is known as the ‘masking effect’. This effect, which has a negative influence on overall sound quality, is due to the way in which our ears work. “The human ear is unable to perceive low-volume frequency components of a sound if there are much louder sounds occurring in a lower frequency range at the same time,” explained Axel Grell. “This means, for example, that very loud low-frequency sounds will ‘mask’ very quiet sounds in the medium frequency range. This is particularly apparent in in-ear headphones. The sealing of the ear canal by the earphones normally causes resonances that result in a peak in the 7kHz to 8kHz range. This has the effect of masking the actual higher-frequency components. Precisely this problem has been overcome in the IE 800 by the use of an absorber. Sennheiser’s patented dual-chamber system absorbs the energy of the resonance, thus preventing any unwanted peaks. As a result, all frequency components – even the finest nuances – in the music material become audible.

Finest wearing comfort
The optimum sound properties of the IE 800 are further enhanced by excellent wearing comfort. The housing is made of scratch-resistant, skin-friendly ceramic, while the ear pads consist of skin friendly silicone. This rules out any risk of allergies or skin irritation. To guarantee a perfect fit, Sennheiser has developed new ear adapters with an oval shape based on extensive international studies in ergonomics. According to their personal preference, users can choose from a selection of oval (SM/ML) and round (S/M/L) adapters. A protective mesh on the ear cushions effectively protects the drivers against dirt contamination.

About Sennheiser

New earbuds and sport ear hooks can be purchased using new shopping cart function available on the Paradigm SHIFT website or from dealers nationwide.

Â

Las Vegas, NV – International CES 2011 – January 10-13 – Venetian 30-336 – Paradigm SHIFT™ by Paradigm Electronics Inc., an international leader in speaker design and manufacturing, announces three new earbuds engineered in the company’s Canadian factory as well as a pair of Sport Ear Hooks manufactured in-house. With 30 years of sound research, development and manufacturing behind it, the Paradigm brand is synonymous with high quality audio at a value price. Paradigm SHIFT follows the same objective, creating high-quality earbuds that replicate the sound of their high-end speaker lines.

Â

Unlike most other speaker and headphone manufacturers, Paradigm has its own audio research and development facility, complete with a 36,000-cubic-foot anechoic chamber for taking accurate sound measurements. The company also has multiple double blind listening rooms used to test every product. Specifically for earbuds and personal audio products, Paradigm SHIFT employs an advanced head and torso “manikin” that acts as a human simulator, measuring the sonic properties while helping with ergonomic design and frequency response adjustments. The SHIFT team has affectionately named their manikin, Angelina. Paradigm applies the same stringent sonic testing and quality control on SHIFT earbuds as on its flagship Paradigm Reference speakers. SHIFT earbuds are critically tuned to Paradigm’s three main speaker lines: Monitor, Studio and Signature. Models are stepped in the depth and degree of bass offered.

Designed for portable personal audio, PC and gaming, the E1, E2m and E3m earbuds were built for comfort without sacrificing performance. Bass performance is enhanced by a rigid connection between the tip and actual earbud, lessening the loss of low frequencies. All three are available in black and white finishes and feature an air tight seal for superb noise isolation, three sizes of tips for ears of all sizes, a tangle-resistant 1.2 meter cord and a padded travel case/pouch for protection. The E2m and E3m models also feature an in-line remote and microphone that allow users to pause and play music as well as answer and disconnect telephone calls with one click. Available as an optional accessory (sold separately) is a pair of Sport Ear Hooks in a one-piece, comfy-curve molded polymer designed and manufactured in-house. Made for Paradigm SHIFT earbuds, new sport ear hooks sit snug around your ear even during the most intense physical activity.

“We’ve taken every possible step to ensure the new Paradigm SHIFT earbuds stand out in the over-crowded, over-hyped world of personal audio,” said Mark Aling director of marketing for Paradigm SHIFT. “We feel earbuds should sound as good as they look. Considering the depth of research and expertise put into performance, aesthetics and comfort, Paradigm SHIFT will quickly earn its place as an elite brand, inspiring a new generation of audio enthusiasts.”

Paradigm SHIFT earbuds are available from select dealers throughout North America and also direct from the Paradigm SHIFT website:www.paradigm.com/shift, from the new shopping cart function. Music lovers can find SHIFT products at local audio / video specialty stores by using theParadigm dealer locator and contacting the closest representative. Sport Ear Hooks will be available soon through the same distribution channels.

OLD LYME, Conn. – December 19, 2011 - This year at CES, audio specialist Sennheiser will be presenting the latest models of its Professional earphones series, the IE 60 and IE 80. These models were developed as a result of Sennheiser’s broad experience in the professional music sector. With a sound quality precision that is virtually unrivalled in the portable segment, the IE 60 and IE 80 ear-canal phones are aimed at music enthusiasts who crave the best possible audio quality.

“The IE 60 and IE 80 ear-canal phones are ideal for discerning listeners who want to hear music with the finest possible detail,” explained Eric Palonen, senior product specialist for Sennheiser’s consumer electronics division. “Based on the huge success of our earlier models and the overwhelmingly positive feedback from our customers, we developed new models that have an even more innovative design.”The IE 60 and IE 80 each benefit from Sennheiser’s expertise in the professional monitoring sector. The ear-canal phones use dynamic transducers that cover the entire frequency range with a single system. Distortion is therefore kept to a minimum, even at high sound pressure levels. Also, the design and accompanying ear adaptor accessories allow for the best possible attenuation. The top-of-the-range IE 80 model achieves a noise attenuation of up to 26 dB, and both earphones can be used for monitoring. They are also ideal for MP3 players, Apple iPod*, Apple iPhone* and other portable devices and mobile phones.

IE 60: High-resolution sound with excellent bass reproductionÂ
The IE 60 delivers modern pop and rock music with impressive precision and high-resolution bass reproduction. It features passive noise attenuation of up to 20 dB, with a frequency response of 10 to 18,000 Hz. The IE 60 design features luxurious brass accents that contrast the matte-black finish of the earphones. Its rugged housing and cabling make it suitable for even the most demanding situations.

Los Angeles – December 1, 2011 – V-MODA, the maker of critically-acclaimed and award-winning headphones including Crossfade LP and Crossfade M-80, is thrilled to announce the availability of Faders tuned earplugs, the first of several protective offerings under Ear Armor, Inc.

Constructed from top grade metals and medical-grade silicone fittings, Faders protect your hearing by reducing harmful noise by 12 dB evenly across the frequency spectrum, while still allowing you to enjoy crystal clear music and speech in a club, concert, festival, music practice, or other excessively loud events. The noise reduction can make the difference between an enjoyable listening experience and lifelong hearing loss.

The concept for Ear Armor and Faders was born when V-MODA founder and accomplished DJ, Val Kolton, was on tour in Spain. While enjoying a friend’s set, Kolton noticed the sound level meter for the dance floor, a unique feature to this club. He was amazed by how high the decibel levels reached and had an immediate epiphany that DJs were unknowingly spinning at unsafe sound levels because the speakers in the DJ booth and dance floor are at separate volumes.

Continuing his spinning sessions after returning to America, Val Kolton found there were many people who were anxiously searching for good hearing protection. After reading an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association which found that one in five American teenagers had some degree of hearing loss – a startling 31% increase since the late 80s, Val immediately went to work commissioning the V-MODA R&D Labs with a new mission – to create the world’s best earplugs.
“Most earplugs simply sound like you have mud in your ears, even expensive custom-fitted sets costing hundreds of dollars don’t have the clarity and highs. Additionally, after DJing for years with custom earplugs, I experienced first-hand that they can cause ear canal problems similar to using Q-tips. Worst of all, these expensive products easily fall out and get lost,” says Val Kolton, Chief Visionary Officer and Founder of V-MODA. “Faders are affordable, comfortable, sleek, fit everybody, and most importantly they help protect your hearing while still allowing you to rock out and enjoy concerts, clubs, or any loud event.”

V-MODA Faders are crafted in metal and are available in Gunmetal, Rouge and Pink and come with three sizes of medical-grade “BLISS 2.0” silicone fittings for a universal fit. Additionally, the fabric lanyard ensures they do not get lost in the crowd. They are available for a limited time for only $15 at V-MODA.com. For any order over $50, the Faders will be included complimentary while supplies last. For more information, please visit V-MODA.com/Faders. A portion of all proceeds go to the In The Loop Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Kolton to help educate and promote the practice of safe sound.
