Strength:

exceptionally good base, very clean and transparent midrange

Weakness:

needs a large room, discontinued.

I have enjoyed this speaker for more than 10 years, and every time when I listened to this speaker I am amazed how good this speaker is, and at the same time I always wish I had a larger size room. Very clean and trnsparent vocal sound, warm trumpet sound, truly amazing base (hear Copland's Appalachian Spring). When I listen to "Relaxation & Meditation" I am completely holographically absorbed in the middle of the sound of wave of the ocean with a wide open soundstage. Does anybody know how easy is it to open the speaker box and upgrade it by using more modern high end crossover capacitors and so on? Since this speaker was made quite a few years ago I am wondering whether one can further improve it. Furthermore, does biwiring improve a lot with this speaker? As several other reviewers mentioned this is an exceptional speaker!!

Strength:

they offer very smooth wide power bandwidth with a minimum of distortion, great attention to proper time response and minimal cabinet resonance

Weakness:

I suspect that newer low resonance cabinet materials and design would further enhance low level detail and noise floor

In sum I find it amazing how well these speakers hold up at the state of the art, they brought out the new performance levels and holographics detailing and staging that the Spectral DMC 30 DMA 150 combo with MIT 350/770 cables provided (also replaced old sony CD player with Wadia 850). A vast improvement over my audio research gear. I find that the AIIIi provide very smooth response, not tiring in any way...even at elevated levels...acoustic details lost with many speakers are "there"....it was wonderful to find that adhering to fundermentally sound design goals means that speakers can still please as you upgrade...
My only area of concern is whether there are ways to further reduce cabinet colarations....But for now I am very happy....In today's market similar performance would cost well over $15,000...so I am very pleased
