Review 1 of 8

Price Paid:  $400.00 from compaq.com

Summary:
once it worked it was fine but it was getting it working that was the problem. I had two of them over about 1 year and the second one is broken and now out of waranty. Compaq (now HP) doesn't know how to fix it so thay want to go halves with me in a new one. im happy to do that coz i want an mp3 player like it, however if it doesn't work then thats it.

Strengths:
good quality sound doesn't skip

Weaknesses:
breaks easily

Review 2 of 8

Price Paid:  $0.00 from N/A

Summary:
Awesome little machine! Size and memory are great. Sound is good, needs a little more Bass response though. Software is a little sluggish, but simple to use. Prefer NOT to use Media Player though. Headphones are good, but a little uncomfortable after about an hour. Overall neat little player.

Strengths:
Size, ease of use, Sound quality, display, workmanship.

Weaknesses:
Earphones are uncomfortable. Software is a little slow. Needs better Bass response.

Review 4 of 8

Price Paid:  $250.00 from Fry's Electronics

Summary:
The Rioport bundled software is a travesty. I've finally given up on it's restrictive features, and come to find out that there are no other alternatives, other than Windows Mediaplayer, which is NOT an alternative.

All in all, it may come high time to pass my mp3 player down in the family, and get a new one--from another company.

Strengths:
Hardware is top of the line.

Weaknesses:
Software is COMPLETE GARBAGE.

Similar Products Used:
Rio Volt MP3/CD player.

Review 5 of 8

Price Paid:  $100.00 from pcmall.com

Summary:
if you can buy the refurb model for $100 i highly reccomend it. $200 is pretty steep in my books...still worth it tho. the small size of the player rocks...just clip it onto your belt and you'll forget it's there.

Strengths:
Small size, great sound quality, very durable casing, and low price. Good battery life in comparison to other mp3 players.

Weaknesses:
File transfer is a bit on the slow side, but this is due to the mmc memory cards that it uses.

Similar Products Used:
Sony discman, walkman.

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....
