These were bot from Harmon USA on a fluke...and man, I am glad I did! These were the flagship of the ill-fated Harmon Line (94-96) foray into High End Loudspeakers. They were actually Canadian mfg. at what I believe is the PSB facility. Harmon made 20s 30s and floorstanding 40s 50s and 60s, and were not shy about pricing them. If you saw the build quality you'd know why. No expense was spared to make these, consequently they were competing head on with Legacy, Infinity Renaissance 90, and the like. Lack of recognition also hurt them, (Harmon Kardon is NOT known for Loudspeakers) and word is they lost their shirt on this venture, dumping their remaining inventory thru Harmon's audio outlet in the end (I got mine in early '97), but some fine products were made. The cabinet quality is unmatched! PIANO BLACK LAQUER with genuine Hawaiian KOA Wood Inserts running the length of the sides on front. Rapping the sides produces a "flat" sound...like concrete! The driver setup consists of dual 8" drivers D'Appolitoed with a 1" tweeter in between. Bass Port on bottom front, instead of rear. These produce the most natural, uncolored sound I've ever heard! They thrive on Jazz, spiked the bass is acceptable, tho no Sig IIIs or the like. They don't like BI Wiring, sounding much clearer when the jumpers are left in place. I have twin Pioneer Reference M-90 and C-90, AND THESE BABYS NEED IT...THEY ARE HUNGRY!...(Only 87 Efficiency...dont try to drive these with less than RMS 100 Watt pers!) They discounted these heavily, so if you see any used, you should be able to get into them for about 1,000.00...The LOOK of the piano laquer and KOA is worth it!...I've heard the FIFTYS sound good too, tho i've never heard them.
