Strength:

Size, universal remote, composit video, s-vhs, and nifty pip.

Weakness:

Hard to set up picture, easy to screw up picture, I would like to have a light up remote, it's HEAVY!!, and the tube really round.

I like my Toshiba. I havnt had any real problems with it at all. I used a set up dvd to adjust the picture and it looked great untill my roomate decided to turn up the brightness. So long set up. I havnt bothered to go through it again.

Strength:

Very good clear picture when set up properly. Large enough to watch wide screen movies.

Weakness:

On a set this size the geometry shows, especially on test patterns, the curve of the screen. I find that I'm used to it and hardly notice it anymore.

I agree with some of the complaints listed, but have never had the big problems stated by some of you. Perhaps I'm lucky. It's a hard TV to adjust. I've had both the avia and video essentials disks, and still not been able to get it looking right. Suprisingly, the Sound and Vision home theater disk worked for me while the others did not. Even when perfectly adjusted the set does not match the flat screen sets like wega. It also costs half as much. I also wish that it could remember two sets of settings, one for regular input, and one for the component video settings when using a DVD player. Mine was a floor model, so at least I got a chance to see it in action before bringing it home.

Strength:

Size, color, picture, 2 tuner PIP, sound, setup options, good instruction manual, component video input, price

Weakness:

PIP won't swap with cable stations

I bought the Sony Wega, brought it home and right out of the box the picture tube had 2 large color blobs in the left upper and lower corners. There was also a large gray colored bar on the left side of the screen when the screen was black. The picture was nice, but not much better than the Toshiba. I returned the Sony and bought the Toshiba. It took a while to set up with the PIP options, but it was worth it. I am very pleased with the set overall. The component video input for DVD is wonderful. I saved $305.00 over the Sony and got a 36" instead of a 32" and a 2 tuner PIP. I am very disappointed in Sony. I dont think it is too much to expect that a $1300.00 television will work right out of the box.

Strength:

Component Video, Dual rf inputs
Temperature setting, Price.

Weakness:

Weigh: This set is heavy.

I purchased this set from Worldspy.com for $559 delivered. They advertised for $699 and I got a 20% off coupon from them. After I placed the order, they went out of stock and I had to wait for about a month for it to arrive. Btw, They raised the price to $899 after that :). What I can tell you is the wait was well worth it. The picture is the best I 've seen from a Toshiba set after I calibrated it using AVIA disk. I used warm temperature setting for both cable and DVD inputs. The only draw back of this set compare to the Sony Wega (which I considered buying) is the glare from light. So Its best to dim the light when watching this set. I highly recommend this set until HDTV's prices come down to the level we all can afford.

Strength:

Picture clarity, color and resolution. Component inputs. Temperature control. Two tuner PIP. Price versus comparable 36" TVs.

Weakness:

Curved display.

The picture quality for DVD on component input is awesome. I shopped around on the internet and visited Fry's, Good Guys, etc. I ended up buying at 800.com for $975 with no taxes and free "Red Carpet Delivery". There also is a $50 rebate available from Toshiba until April. No 36" TV offers the number of features and picture quality for the price. Never owned a Toshiba and never thought I would. Like everyone else, I am waiting for the HDTV prices to come down.

Strength:

great color, nice clarity, price/performance

Weakness:

weight, no built-in handles

I was shopping for a 36" TV and wanted component video, and PIP. I didn't want to spend more than $1000 since HDTV is here and slowly becoming more affordable. I saw the Sony Wega's and didn't like the picture on the $1500 and less models, liked the Panasonic Superflat, but the 36" was $1600. Had read a good review from Home Theater Mag on the 32" version of this TV and decided to check it out. I really liked the picture quality. I bought it at Best Buy for $940 including a TV stand. I calibrated it with Video Essentials and it looked awesome except the left side of the picture curved vertical lines. I called service in warranty and they adjusted it for free. The geometry is very good now (only a slight curve on the top left 1"). Component video from my SD-2109 DVD looks excellent. Highly recommend this TV! Colors are vibrant, flesh looks like flesh, sharpness is very good without looking unnatural (my complaint with the Wega's), nice features with the PIP and a good cable TV tuner. I recommend to the previous reviewer to have a tech calibrate the geometry in warranty - was well worth it! Calibrate it first with Video Essentials or Avia Guide to Home Theater and have either there when tech comes. It made a BIG difference.

Strength:

PIP, composite video, s-video

Weakness:

weight, picture, color, remote

I purchased this t.v at Sams for $549.00 plus tax, and at this price I could not pass it up. I then came to this site to review it, and walked away worried that my t.v. would some have all the problems that all these other user are complaining about. Well, after 3 days of use two huge green and red blobs magically appeared on the picture. Two days later they disappeared, and then they came back again. You get the idea.... The manufacturer settings are off, but after tweeking it a bit I finally got the color and picture to look half way descent. The reds and flesh tones are absolutely horrible on this t.v.

STAY AWAY.....

Strength:

color and clarity(component inputs baby!)

Weakness:

slightly pinkish flesh tones, but is easily handled by adjusting color.

awesome tv! Loaded wtih features for the price.I couldnt find a better tube for under a thousand bucks.using the component video inputs is a must for shockingly beautiful results with your dvd movies. My old tv was a measly 27",so this tube was a huge upgrade.with the exception of having to adjust the color for better flesh tones,i am totally satisfied with my purchase. too bad for those other reviewers, i couldnt be happier with how the hockey games look, not to mention my N64.

Just wanted to send something in agreeing with Mark's review. Went through three televions before the pinkish cast made me just forget keeping this toshiba. Watching something with a white background like hockey, or espn's x-games drove me nuts. Pinkish clouds all over the white background. If you can live with this problem, and live with not being able to turn off the set's speakers then this could be the television for you.
