Strength:

Great picture, solid sound & strong features

Weakness:

Poor reliability

I purchased a Sony KV20FV12 20” color TV set on March 2002 and it was not working by July 2002 — about five months of use. I contacted the Sony 800# and described the problem (the screen had a solid horizontal white line through the middle of the screen and then it would turn itself off) and was directed to an authorized service center. After hauling the TV to the service center and waiting a week while they verified warranty information with Sony, I was finally informed that the “high voltage power supply” and the “power supply regulator circuit” needed to be replaced. Parts would cost $90.00 and the labor would cost $108.00. And then the bombshell — labor is not covered under warranty. Five months after spending $379.99 on this TV I needed to spend another $108.00 to make it work again. This is unacceptable. First, I contacted the Sony 800# to learn that I was out of luck and that Sony does not back its’ products as I had always believed. Second, I contacted the Circuit City store where I had purchased the TV and their comment was, “you should have purchased our extended warranty.” Everyone seemed to be running from this product including Sony. I am disappointed that the TV broke so soon, but what is most unacceptable is fact that Sony will not fully fix or replace the disabled TV so soon after the purchase when it is clearly a defect in material or workmanship. I specifically paid a higher price for a Sony TV in order to get a higher quality product. I am questioning my rationale at this time and am also questioning Sony’s commitment to their products and customer satisfaction.

Nice set. My first foray into flat screen TVs, I use this set in my computer room to watch while Im working, surfing. Wonderful clarity and great as a second set, I moved my round tubed panasonic out to make a place for it and thus far Im not disappointed. GREAT picture with my dish and Sony DVD player.

Strength:

S-Video input, great universal remote, awesome picture quality. Easy to do the "anamorphic squeeze" with anamorphic dvds.

Weakness:

Physically large and heavy for a 20" set, XDS must be turned on and off in the menu.Slight geometry problems

I bought this TV about two weeks ago and I am very happy with it. Great picture quality on DVD movies, and the 3 Line Comb filter does a good job on most of our cable channels. The remote is very nice as are the menus. My complaints are few. First, the thing is HUGE for a 20" set. It's actually a 21" set with only 20" viewable so it's very heavy and large. It just barely fit on my tv stand. Also, the XDS feature is nice(it tells you what channel it is as well as what show is on) but it can only be turned on and off by going into the close captioning menu. Once it's on, it doesn't go away unless you go back into the menu and turn it off. Finally, my set had some slight geometry problems(very slight bowing) but i fixed it with a bit of tinkering. All in all, while it is quite expensive for a 20" set, it is a great TV and I do not regret purchasing it.

Strength:

Flat screen Trinitron makes for excellent picture.

Weakness:

Sound quality is below what I would expect for a Sony. "Favorites" feature only remembers five channels

Great picture, not-so-great sound. I own the KV20FS12. My last TV, also a 20-inch Sony, had much better sound quality and adjustability. With this model, there is no audio control, other than volume. You can't adjust the bass or treble, which is a shame because it tends to distort low to low-midrange audio signals. Also, my older TV could remember ten, not five, "favorite" channels.

Strength:

Picture quality

Weakness:

Product quality not up to past Sony Standards

Great product, but lacks the normal picture and sound quality I'm accustomed to with my other Sony Tvs.
Had to return first unit due to clang sound when I first turned unit on.
Should have returned second unit, because of horizontal lines on black screen between scenes

Strength:

Only 20 inch TV with S-video inputs that I have seen
Audio output
2-Video inputs
WEGA flat tube design
Great Universal Remote
Dual Timers
Easy set up menu

Weakness:

Little expensive
Sound is good, not great

I got this TV for college because a 25-27 would be too big. This TV rocks, it is the only one I have seen that has S-Video in a 20 inch TV that also has an A/V output. It also has 1 front A/V input (very useful for a Playstation and Camcorder) as well as a rear A/V input. The picutre quality is excellent for a 20 inch TV, the WEGA flat tube design is the best I have seen yet. The only drawbacks to the TV are the price and the sound is a little tinny at higher levels. But it is a 20 inch TV, what do you expect. All in all if you are looking for a great 20 inch TV that has all of the features that the larger models do, then this is the TV for you.

Defective TV

This TV is the KV20FS12. It was a Christmas present. Itis used in the bedroom. Only input source is cable TV. Excellent picture quality.

TV is defective and will be returned. There is a light (whitish) horizontal band about two inches that runs across the top of the picture. Very evident in dark scenes.

Strength:

this tv has alot of functions to choose. you can customize your own picture settings.

Weakness:

when you first turn up the volume you can hear a low bussing coming from the speakers.Really noticable when voulum down low during movie dialog. I tried different connections and outlets. I think its a flaw in the sound systems design. IF you turn up sound loud you won't notice buzzing.I even took back and tried another tv. Same problem. Took second tv back for refund. Not paying 400.00 for a tv with bad sound.

If the sound was fixed correctly I'd buy it. Would have even paid a little more.Get it together sony!
