Samsung TSK2792F Standard Televisions

Samsung TSK2792F Standard Televisions

DESCRIPTION

Samsung is proud to introduce a new generation of DynaFlatâ„¢ ED televisions that dynamically brings tomorrow's picture quality to the market today. The tube surface is Flat, drastically reducing distortion and glare found on conventional curved sets. Samsung's TSK2792F elevates the television viewing experience by up-converting incoming analog sources to a progressive scan 480p display eliminating conventional TV scan lines for a "flicker-free" picture. The Television Broadcast Industry is in the process of shifting to the more technologically advanced and visibly better digital picture. Since there are many digital TV formats, a set top box is required to translate them, such as the Samsung SIR series DTV receiver/decoder. A 480p DVD/DTV Component Video Input provides the flexibility to receive digital broadcasts from terrestrial broadcasts, cable systems, or satellite receivers. TSK2792F is a bridge between today's standard NTSC TV and the emerging DTV program content because it can play both. When you are ready to take the next step up, your Samsung DynaFlatâ„¢ ED TV is already there.

Strength:

Great picture

Weakness:

Sound went out on me in just over a years time of use

I absolutly loved it until today when the sound went out. I have had it for just over a year and the sound has gone out for the cable, the DVD sound is muffled. But on the bright side, the sound for the XBOX is still workning and sounding good. The only explanation I have is that each sound input must be on different circuits.

Strength:

No scan lines, totally flat screen, beautiful colors, component video inputs for DVD or DTV with progressive scan capability

Weakness:

Some digital artefacts can be seen with standard NTSC signal (mostly with sports programs)

I love my 27" Tantus TV. Local Best Buy had it set up beside two 27" Sony WEGAs, the $599 and $799 versions (don't know their model #s). The scan lines on the WEGAs were very prominent at close distance, while Samsung had no visible scan lines at all - the image was continuous, like film. Other than that, image quality side-by-side was at least as good as the SONYs, but hard to judge because they were all fed the same crappy signal through the RF inputs. Still, progressie scan impressed me enough to buy the set. Warning: Best Buy actually sells a different model, TSK2790F, which I believe is inferior to TSK2792F that you get elsewhere (it does not even say "Tantus" on the front). I got mine from Tweeter, which had by far the best price considering that they charge just $30 for home delivery (!) At home, after some adjustments, the image looked much better than in the store. There are two "canned" image settings, Standard and Mild, which are Ok for starters, but you can use the Custom channel to tweak the picture to your satisfaction, then switch easily between your setting and the "canned" ones. There is a similar adjustment for sound, with a simulated 5-band equalizer and 5 "canned" settings. I don't have a DVD player yet, but even cable looks fantastic. The difference in the signal quality between different cable channels is very obvious on this TV. I watch a lot of movies and have been very happy with the image so far: rich, deep colors, smooth tones, and no scan lines. I can't emphasize this enough - if you like movies, you should definitely buy this TV over Sony WEGA. On the other hand, with some programs (mostly sports) I can see what looks like digital artefacts, probably resulting from NTSC being converted to progressive scan. It's difficult to describe, but there is some structure in the image that I feel should not be there. So beware of this if you plan to watch a lot of sports on this set. Overall, I think this TV is great, it has a fantastic image with the programs I care most about, and it seems to be well made. At $799 it costs the same as the higher-priced 27" WEGA, and for a movie fan like myself the Samsung is definitely better.

Strength:

Incredible clarity and power of picture, sound, dozens of features

Weakness:

Much larger than most 27-inch TVs, but now that it's installed, that is more a strength

If you're in the market, RUN, don't walk to BestBuy or Tweeter or wherever and get one before they're gone. I've been watching this at BestBuy (They carry the TSK2790F, but by the time I decided, I didn't care anymore) for like a year now. The floor model went into clearance mode at $650 ($799 original price, which was down from $1,000 about a year ago) and I bought it.

Glad I did too. I've never seen a TV in store or in anyone's house (let alone my own) like it. Keep in mind I've gone from a 15-year-old JC Penney 19-inch to this gem. I had to tear out a middle wall of the entertainment center, but it was worth it.

Incredible picture with digital cable (can't wait to buy the progressive scan DVD); incredible sound; several nice settings for sound and picture; cleverly designed PIP, including split screen; freeze frame; headphone jack; and available widescreen mode when watching a letterboxed program or movie. Just love it.

Strength:

Spectacular color, brightness, clarity

Weakness:

A bit bulky for 27"; occasional artifacts

Colors are RIGHT ON with this set. I bought a DVD player for a prior set, and after comparing with VHS thought, "Why do people rave so much about DVDs?"

Now that I'm watching DVDs through the Tantus's composite input, I am awestruck with how fantastic they look in comparison to tapes! I always hated letterboxed movies because the smaller images were so blurry and grainy. That is SO not the case with this set. Clarity is superb, and anamorphic DVDs with the Tantus's widescreen mode help even more.

There are some artifacts with high-motion scenes, mostly pronounced with poor reception. However, they are practically imperceivable at a normal viewing distance. As far as clarity is concerned, I can't find a simalar-sized set for under $1500 that comes close. A friend of mine was quite buzzed one night when we were watching a movie. He kept walking up about one foot from the picture tube saying, "G** d*** is that CLEAR!" "Lookit how godd*** CLEAR that is!"

"Yeah we heard, now get out of the way and watch the movie."

"No, really! I can read the license plate on that car! 396 5..."

"OKAY! Shut the hell up and watch the movie!"

I am clearly spoiled by progressive scanning now. Anytime I see an interlaced set at somoeone else's house, it looks awful. I have really grown to hate the Sony WEGA sets too, where the filtering is over-aggressive in my opinion, as if the sharpness is turned up beyond what tube is capable of.

One potential drawback about this set is that if you have marginal over-the-air or cable reception, get it fixed, amplified, bigger antenna, go digital, etc. before you hook up this set, because any potential artifacts will be multiplied if you have snow in the picture. We have a few cable channels that are weak, and the snow almost appears to hang in 3D in front of the picture tube, sometimes even making it look like 15 frames/sec. However, our clearer channels like Headline News and The Weather Channel look as if the set is being fed by computer.

Sound? Wow! The Tantus stock speakers sound way better than my wimpy 60w Pioneer stereo, which I don't even bother to turn on anymore. Next purchases: Surround speakers, new stereo system.

The other big pluses I didn't even know about the set until I brought it home:

- auto clock set
- surf w/ timed recall
- picture-freeze
- two-tuner pip (so clear you can read the Preview Guide in it!)
- front-facing pop-open A/V/S-Video input
- cool remote, especially the flip-open PIP section
- sleep timer
- direct display of native 480p input
- supposedly has ability to downconvert 1080i and 720p to 480p? (the salesperson thought so but wasn't positive)

Beautiful picture and cabinet, clarity and color. Seems bigger than your typical 27 incher.

Weakness:

Best Buy selling the TSK2790F Model, wich is not the same quality as the Tsk2792f!

After 3 Panasonic 32hx40s, I gave up on their horrible attempt at constructing a tv that is NOT worth the $1700 dollar price tag..leading me to this great tv from Samsung! Because of size limitations I had to go with the 27 inch instead of the 32 inch model of the Samsung. I find that the 27 inch is more than enough for my viewing area. I first went to Bestbuy to check this tv out..Hmm...they have a model thats not the TSK2792F...They sell the Tsk2790F.I called Samsung and asked about the differences between the two. I was told that only Best buy stores sell the 90 model..and everyone else sells the 92 model.I was told that the 90 model does not have a digital 3d filter, its a shade different color cabinet and he went on to say many other lesser-grade differences. Also the Bestbuy model is $799(200 dollars less than tweeter and bernies $1000 normal price tag)HEADS-UP FOLKS..you get what you pay for! Caught a sale at Bernies..$799 for the 92 model...very happy and awesome with progressive scan dvd! 5 stars

to add to my review...

I HATE this television. Remember the opening sequence in Return of the Jedi where Darth Vader's ship flies into the Death Star? Remember how real it looked? Well this televisions gone and screwed it all up. Now you can tell just how fake it is. You can see all the little imperfections in the film... and that's watching it on VHS!!! Imagine what you'd be able to see if it were on DVD or uncompressed laserdisc. I did check out the audio capabilities and must say that they are very impressive. There is however a slight hum that can be heard from a distance of maybe two inches from the speaker. Geez I wonder if it could be a 60Hz hum? Okay. Well. Once again, I highly recommend this set for anyone on a tight budget.
Peace...

Samsung is making some dyamite electronics. You need to download the user manual from Samsung & read

Weakness:

Very heavy tv for 27" Around 120+lbs. Youll need a buddy to help you lift this one. The Sony WEGA is also very heavy

July 25,2000 After reading the reviews I went down to Best Buy to have a look at the TSK2790HF. They had it next to a sony wega, Its the only set that I have seen that beats the wega for picture clarity and definition. This is a downgraded model from the TSK2790HF. Best Buy wants $799.00 for the TSK2790HF. Their 4 year add on warrany is $299.95. Yes I said $300.00. When I inquired as to why the warranty was so high, they said that it cost more to have the new sets fixed. Well I called TWEETER in southern calif and was able to order the TSK2792HF over the phone for $766.00 +tax and shipping. A full 60 month in home warranty is just $149.95. Which I whole heartly recommend buying before your year from samsung runs out. Just call TWEETER back and request the add on warranty any time during the first year. Oh the sony WEGA 27 that I bought from Circuit City two weeks ago is going back

Strength:

Breathtaking color. No scan lines. You can approach this television from multiple angles, you can even examine the screen at extremely close range, but it is virtually impossible to detect the scan lines common on other sets.

Weakness:

It measures almost 34" wide and is useless if you have a cabinet designed for a 27" television.

Wow! Wow! Wow! I've never seen anything like it. My local retailer had these on display with several other high end direct view TVs, including Sony WEGA. The colors on the Samsung were far deeper, brighter, and richer than on any of the others. Moreover, there were no scan lines--you couldn't find them no matter how hard you looked. I wanted to buy this set on the spot, but it would not fit in my 27" cabinet. Nevertheless, I am persuaded that this is the best television in the 27" platform available today. If you are shopping for a 27" television start here! They are a little pricey, but I would pay it in a heart beat. By the way, they are available on the internet for almost $400 under suggested retail.

Strength:

Incredible clarity in progressive mode, lots of inputs, PIP, freeze picture, excellent sound.

Weakness:

If not used with a progressive DVD player or XBOX/Gamecube, the picture without progressive has artifacts. Only complaint.

I got this TV after doing alot of research, and I came to the conclusion that no other 27 inch tv has progressive scan. My main use for the tv was gaming and dvd. Yesterday I was able to get a hold of the component cables for the XBOX, and went into the XBOX's menu and put 480p on. I noticed the image was doubled, so I put it to the DTV input and I was floored, no artifacting, double the resulotion, it looked like the hdtv I paid for(Before this discovery I was dissappointed in it). I am really picky about picture quality and this tv in progressive mode is incredible. I don't think they are selling this model anymore, they have a newer one, it looks identical though(weird). I highly recommend this tv if you have an XBOX or Gamecube and are looking for the best quality picture. To give people an idea as to how the picture looks like in progressive is to check out the HOUSE OF DEAD 2 arcade monitor, it is that clear and crisp! No scan lines! Also you might want to disable the velocity scan modulation on it, do that by turning the tv off and pressing in order, mute,1,8,2 then power, go to picture settings and turn the VMlevel to 13 or lower(i have it at 13) the factory preset is 257! Insanely high, and it causes alot more artifacting, turn off!Enjoy.E-mail me if you got questions.
