Strength:

Inexpensive, reasonably good picture; maintenance free. Never have had to use warranty or have any repair. Guide Plus Gold is a nice feature to those without digital cable or satellite; when it works. ~$250 well spent for the amount of use it gets.

Weakness:

Guide Plus Gold, and the television software itself; can sometimes be buggy. For some reason, Guide Plus Gold (not part of RCA but a separate company) stopped working for many months. From what I gathered on the internet, it had something to do with a change in service. After relying on it for years, it was disappointing to have it stop working. A few weeks ago I discovered it was working again, hooray!

The Guide Plus Gold also has an infrared sensor which can be programmed to start and stop your VCR, I tried this feature before however it usually stops before the program is concluded - an inconvenience of that feature! I just program the VCR timer instead after a few initial failed attempts.

The TV sometimes appears to reset. My Guide Plus Gold zip code will stay in, but channels I've removed from the listing reappear. When this happens, all channels disappear from the menu and must be downloaded over a 10 hr period. This maybe happens 2-4 times a year, more frequently if the power goes out. Also, some channels in my area are not carried or recognized by the Guide Plus Gold. This includes the National Geographic Channel (??) and WGN.

The remote control recently stopped functioning - it just died after years of service. That is how I stumbled across this review, hunting for a replacement remote.

Unlike the other reviewers here, I've had no problems with the TV itself. The TV comes with the Guide Plus Gold service - and that is where the most "inconveniences" have occurred. The Guide Plus Gold service is a nice alternative to those who don't have digital cable or satellite which have a built in TV Guide option; however if you lose power the TV loses all channel listings and must redownload them. I use the Guide Plus Gold daily - it is a nice feature to have. Occasionally, the TV will just appear to reset. Sometimes, channels which I've removed from the listing (such as QVC) reappear. However, for the price I've gotten my money's worth.

Strength:

Good picture and sound when it works. Cheap.

Weakness:

Not reliable. Components are not well-made, as they break down quickly.

This TV is a poor purchase decision. Although I've owned it for 2 years, I've only gotten about 15 months of use out of it. It first stopped working (picture and sound just went out) after the warranty ran out (how convenient). I got the offending part replaced, but it broke again last month- same problem.

Strength:

Cheap enough; but not for just 14 months use.

Weakness:

The 3 A/V connections are in the front. The offered warranty only covered the picture tube.

The television is a good set; but after a year, I was contacted by RCA for a warranty on the picture tube and nothing else. This type of warranty is worthless since two months later. It developed a high voltage problem. It had sound but no picture and it wasn't the tube.

Similar Products Used:

I have 2 other RCA TV sets and they have multiple years use, without any problems. The remotes are interchangeable between all the sets.
