Great TV. Wish every program was made in HDTV format (1080). This TV really has high quality pictures.

Strength:

Size, Picture Quality

Weakness:

Inputs

This is my first rear projection model and am extremely impressed. The picture quality with the line doubler is very good and high definition picture quality is out of this world.

My only complaint is with the inputs. There are 5 inputs but only 1 that accepts HD signals and only 1 other that accepts component video. You also have to cycle through all inputs to get to the one you want instead of jumping directly there with one button (although you can tell it to skip unused inputs).

Huge TV,looks like a giant plasma TV with the lights off.

I had this TV for 6 months now and its looks increadible. My DVD's are played thru. my Sony 9000es and I let my Onkyo master peace receiver TXDS989 do the component video swiching.
You have set the settings on the Movie mode and colors on Warm, then sit back and enjoy the magic.

Strength:

Superb picture quality with HD and DVD

Weakness:

DRC is it's week link. Also, the widesceen modes are lacking in usefullness. No user convergence.

I've lived with this set for almost a year.I'm very familiar with Sonys and have been usually impressed with their image quality.Since I am an ISF calibrator,I have done the necessary tweaking.Color temps fairly close from the start using the MOVIE mode, however, they still needed some adjusting. The set needs constant re-converging because FLASH FOCUS seems to loose itself.

Overall,I'm fairly impressed with the set.I was seriously looking to get the Pioneer Elite but I just couldn't justify the cost of the Pioneer. When I bought the set,I was fortunate to have both sets next to each other (PRO 710 and the XBR).Running two outputs from a Pioneer DVD player to each set and each set adjusted correctly, the image from the two sets were so close. The Pioneer was sharper, the Sony's color a bit better.I chose the Sony strictly for the cost savings.

I have seen the new Pioneer Elite 620 and 720 and they look even better.Still can't justify the price, however.

A good quality HD image or DVD makes your mouth drop on the Sony. But,Sony's DRC circuitry leaves a lot to be desired. Some very annoying shimmering goes on at times.

Strength:

Its HUGE and looks like film. I built a movie theater in my living room. What more do I need?

Weakness:

Its so good that crappy dvd's just look like crap now. Blast!

Just purchased this, hooked it up to a new Sony DVP9000 ES DVD player and a Playstation 2 and have spent every ounce of free time in front of it over the last week. I must say I'm really impressed overall. I was looking for a monsterous TV with progressive scan technology. I like Sony and have always had good luck with them. And all in all it looks great. As I said, I now have my own movie theater. Got a great deal online, if you want one call up Ashkam1@aol.com on Ebay. Star Wars and The Abyss never looked better. Damned expensive though. But hey, its worth it.

Weakness:

Only 1 HD input, construction quality

Very good product overall, very-good to excellent picture quality. The auto flash focus is usefull but not extremely precise. Only one HD component input... This is very annoying because i have a SOny DVP-9000ES and a HDTV Sat receiver, i have to use my Yamaha RX-V1 to perform the HD Component switching.
