Purchased the AM15 series II as part of an overall home theatre & flat panel deal from a Big Box store during the 2009 Xmas Holiday sales, so price was discounted heavily to $US 660 (plus Txs). Intended for our 12ft x 18ft family room so no place for towers. Called Bose and had them upgrade the centre speaker to horizontal version for an extra $25, so now it's a series III.

Wanted a high current 5.1 receiver with discrete output transistors, so went with Onkyo TX-SR507 (65W x 5).

After wall mounting TV panel and speaker satellites, I spent few days (after work) tweaking the Onkyo for optimum calibration/placement/equalization levels. Didn't go with the Audyssey calibration, found I could achieve better results on my own.

I'm extremely happy with the overall sound from the Bose/Onkyo combination. Getting the correct Bass without 'boominess' was difficult, finally realized this was likely due to high input sensitivity of the Bass Module input to the Onkyo Pre-Amp. Reduced Onkyo subwoofer output level 3db in relation to satellites and set the Onkyo distance level adjustment closer than the satellites (so the volume is reduced to it in relation to the satellites). Now getting smooth, deep bass at all volume levels, with the ability of 'punching' it with no saturation. I like listening to R&B, can turn up the volume and the Bose will take all of it without distortion - this setup can shake my neighbour's windows - it is loud.

The satellites are natural sounding. Watching 'Planet Earth' in Blu-Ray with the volume at intermediate levels and it's difficult to pinpoint sound source. Sound is dispersed from cube arrays without the 'blaring' I've heard from other systems. I don't experience any noticeable low-range dropoffs that I've read from other reviewers. The high tones could be marginally crisper at low volume, however the Bose shines at intermediate and louder levels where other speakers that I've listened to begin screeching.

I would recommend the AM15 for home theatre applications, but be prepared to spend som etime calibrating them. True 'Audiophiles' should not be buying these for 'pure audio'. You won't get pure audio from a digital source (blu-ray) driving a digital class D amp in an acoustically challenged family room (If you want 'pure audio' then get yourself a good turntable, a class A tube amp and some decent 12in speakers and go lock yourself in the basement away from the kids and turn off the furnace fan).

Strength:

small hideable speakers
high power low sub

Weakness:

a bit pricy but woth it

I baught the bose am15 series 3 because a friend of mine had an old bose am15 system with the passive sub. I thaught that system sounded great. The series 3 sounds even better the powered sub is increradible and the sound i get out of them is increadable . This system is upgradable to 6.1 but if u use the bose vcs10 for centre channel runing directly to your reciever you can use it as a 7.1 system.

Great system looks great, sound better totaly recomended

I could go for days

To all that are thinking that Bose are the best, or even think that they make a good system or speaker. Please believe me when I say the lifestyle system is garbage. The speakers are very inadequate. I was suckered by name brand and hip. If I did my research I would of discovered that bose makes junk and doesn't back up there product. I have spent 100s trying to get this system to sound good. I have hired experts to see if I was doing somthing wrong. I have it set up correct since day 1. Its just that Bose makes a bad product. Bose is a low end quality product. That has a purpose in the low end market and should sell for $100 for the entire system. If anyone disagrees e-mail me and I will sell my system for a fraction of what I paid for it. I would actually give them 0 stars. But 1 was as low as they will go

Buyer Beware!!! Ever wonder why Bose does not post specs on their speakers? Here's why... the "bass" module only goes down to 46Hz (most less expensive speaker systems will go down to 29 or 30Hz such as the Energy Take 5.2 and even cheap Paradigm speaker packages). The Bose Bass module reaches up to 200Hz. Here is where the problem begins... The little cube speakers go down to 280Hz. So you are missing sound from 200Hz to 280Hz. If you listen to music or use these for Home theater, then you will be missing a pretty important part of the sound spectrum. But wait! That's not it! The cube speakers only go up to 13KHz (Human hearing can reach 20KHz). Bose has decided for you that anything above 13Khz is not important. Well, like I said before... If you use these for music or Home Theater you will be missing a lot. Unbelievable! Due to the system's internal crossover, there is an audible gap from 200Hz to 280Hz and from 13KHz to 20Khz. THAT MEANS ONLY 66% OF THE ACTUAL RECORDING OR MOVIE IS BEING PLAYED BACK TO YOU!! This is the most outrageously overpriced speaker system I have ever heard. Please do yourself a favor and go listen to other products. If you can't go to a decent audio store to audition speakers and your ONLY option is Best Buy or Circuit City, then spend less money and get the Athena speakers or JBL speakers or Klipsch speakers. Much better options (not available at chain stores yet they are probably available at a decent audio shop near you) would be speaker offerings from Energy, Paradigm, Gallo(very small speakers but impressive sound), B&W... and great bargains on terrific subwoofers can be found if you look at SVS or HSU subwoofers (not extremely expensive but great bang for the buck). Ask yourself this? Who told you Bose makes great speakers? Radio Commercial? (paid for by Bose) Magazine Advertisement? (paid for by Bose) Infomercial??? A person who owns Bose and has never ventured outside of Sam's Club or Best Buy to listen to speakers? Please, before spending your hard earned money, do some research on these speakers. Search the message boards at audio websites such as Audiogon, Audio Asylum, Sound and Vision, AVS forum, etc. etc. I don't expect everyone to take my word as Golden and I completely understand. Just do some research about these speakers!!! I probably can't post links but this will get you started... look for discussion forums at Web sites such as Audiogon, Audio Asylum, Sound and Vision Mag, and AVS forum.

Strength:

Does a fine disappearing act Base has decent omph at the right place and time Does just fine for music and movies.

Weakness:

Price could be a bit lower.

I have done some listening to other five speakers systems and they had there weakness and strong points. Some looked as if a concert stage for the Rolling Stones would be set up in my entertainment room (aka living room) others were not so dominating but lacked the omph in the base department. Not that the Bose am15-2 is the perfect speaker, but after listening to a demo at Circuit City I knew Bose had paid attention to the "experts" in the forums and had fixed a lot of the problems with the five channel speaker systems that they have to offer. I would not have bought AM15 (series one), however the series two is another story. I like what it does with my denon 4800 reciever with music and movies. I also listen to SACD and DVD AUDIO, and with the new crossover networks in the sub (bigger better sub) the placement of the base is just right. the bottom line here is that it floats my boat for now. there is always going to better stuff coming our way, you just have to do non biased research, and most of all do a demo and let your ears be your guide.

Strength:

Speakers produce good sound

Weakness:

Sub is horrible, the setup is horrible which makes the whole system sound bad. There is absoulutely no base coming out of the sub even when you put it up to the max, you cant feel anything. The base is supposedly to come out of the speakers :|, which is what the sale person told me after i complained about it . Why is there the sub for? Overall, i wouldnt recommend this system to anyone since its a BIG RIPOFF. EVen if you fall for the hype, first listen to both the LOWEST model of Polk which is RM6005, compare it to this Bose's highest model AM15-Series 2, i guarntee that any polk will outperform this.

The Bose AM15-Series 2 Model speaker was supposedly the best surround sound systme out there in every salemans mind. is it? NOT. The polk's lowest model outpeforms this bose's highest model.( I say Polk because thats the system i had before makign the decision of getting a new home theaatre speaker system which makes my statement unbiased since i have LISTENED to it) . The Speakers are not that bad, they sound good, but because of the design of this system, you have to put every single wire into the sub, from there, some weird wire outputs all the signal into the reciever. I tried finding a way to use some better quality wires instead of the cheap wires provided with the bose system, but was unable to find it. The sub is just horrible. Even when i cranked it up to the max on both the receiver and the sub itself, i still couldnt feel any bass. I would recommend buying the RM6005 from Polk Audio rather than this ripoff system from bose. I tried this system for a week just to make sure it wasnt any setting problems or anything related, but got it confirmed over the phone with bose's technicians that my setup was right. Bottom line, dont fall into the bose's publicity and hype. First listen to the sound of it then make your decision, unfortunately, my futureshop didnt have em hooked up so i was unable to listen to em prior to buying them.
