This is an entry-level subwoofer with a feature set that is both a blessing and a curse. It is built like a tank, has ample power (150 Watts), a very attractive appearance, sounds very good/excellent, is affordable <$200.00. It sounds very good with music and excellent with movies. The blessing-it has a remote for the functions of volume and crossover frequencies. This allows the user to adjust the bass to taste from the comfort of a chair! Truly a wonderful feature, but...

It is also a curse: If you lose the remote or it ceases to function, you are screwed! Why? Because the sub itself does not have those controls available onboard! Seriously, a tragedy in the making. I cannot fathom why the engineers decided to make essential operations only available via remote control. People are notorious for losing remotes! Would it have cost so much more to include those controls on the sub itself? I certainly would be willing to pay more to have them on board. Thus, I docked the product a star from its rating.

Exceptional sound quality for the price.

Does not have a dedicated mono in for a sub, have to use a splitter. A little boomy during DVD "The Haunting" may just need some tweaking.

Absolutely amazing what you can get from bidding on the web. I paid $109 w/o shipping (weighs in at over 40lbs, expensive to ship ~$40 UPS). I would buy again given the chance, as long it doesn't burn out in the next 6months. At which time I will be upgrading my entire speaker set with THX certified equipment. Anyway, I highly recommend at this point super sound quality for the price, ease of connection is great, can't wait to see if the neighbors complain about my windows in the basement rattling insanely.

Well I needed a sub to complete my 5.1 system and this fit the budget.

Currently I have it set to max volume and I can rarely feel any vibrations. Considering my TV room is small ~12X15 I expected a little more.


It doesn't shake the walls, but my klipsch speakers need all the help they can get for the low's. Overall a sub adds a lot to movies.


For its value I give it a higher rating, but in the overall scheme of things its still in the low end.

I love this sub, i got it at www.onsale.com for 114, turned out to be 150 including shipping and taxes.
I've noted that quite a few people with subwoofers have complained about a slight hum when sub not being used, this is not the case on this model. I would strongly recommend this to anyone looking to add some bass to a home theater system, or just want some more bass with your stereo system.
For $150 its a good value but i would pay more than 200 without thinking twice about it.

Bought on ezbid.com for $99.00, arrived in a week. I bought and returned the distortion producing Sony and thankfully took a chance on the Ultimate. I haven't used it too much with music but Home Theater usage is outstanding, the low frequency effects in dolby digital playing "Twister" or "The Matrix" DVD made my jaw drop. For some reason the SW 1010 states that it is 200 Watts RMS on the back plate and the owners manual, but it is advertised as 150 Watt on ezbid. *FYI*- Freq. Response listed as 30Hz - 150 Hz, 43 lbs., "OFF-AUTO-ON" switch, 0-180 degree Phase switch.
Two seperate 5-segment LED readouts monitor crossover and volume settings. The remote looks and feels cheap, but works fine (VOL up/down and Crossover up/down). Uses a "Shielded Low Frequency Driver w/Polylaminate Cone & Butyl Rubber Surround In Tuned Phase Aligned Enclosure". Three ports in the back. R and L line in and out (you will need an RCA "Y" if your amp or receiver doesn't have R and L low freq. signals out, my Pioneer VSX-D608 uses "Sub Woofer Out" so I needed the "Y"). High Level Speaker Inputs and Outputs are that bananna-screw down type (Very Nice). I have not heard any transformer hum from it and I do not plan to take it apart to evaluate its internal components as it works so damn good already!

This Subwoofer, for twice the price, is an incredible value and I whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone.

I just received the subwoofer three days ago. The unit was purchased at an on-line auction for a little under $100.00 including shipping. The enclosure looks very attractive and was a great addition to my stereo equipment. This sub produces very clean and tight bass. It is also capable of creating a very life like earthquake simulation in my house. Un-like some of the postings concerning the 12" ultimate powered sub the SW-1010 has no transformer hum. The only thing I would change on this sub if I could, is the volume control. It would be better if the volume was a remote controlled rotary (like on home receivers). But except for that, I have to say that it ranks right up at the top of powered subs I have tried out, and because of the price/sound quality I would recommend this sub to anyone looked to expand the lower frequencies of their home theater.

In another review for this subwoofer, a guy said he was looking for room shaking bass, but didn't get it. He obviously didn't touch the volume or crossover. when I turned the volume of the sub up, and had my reciever at about 1/3 full power (out of 200 watts) things were falling off of my dresser across the room...for a fairly cheap sub, this thing KICKS. the volume control and crossover make a very big difference in the quality of sound reproduction. It is definately worth the money to buy a sub with these controls. The only problrm with these controls is they are somewhat hard to adjust with the remote. The sub would be a 5star if it had rotary volume and crossover controls. My only disapointment was finding out other people got a better bargain.
